Pirates of the Southern Seas

Pirates of the Southern Seas

Dreams

Dropbear was a dreamer. Not a dreamer of petty dreams such as dreams of wealth acquisition and being really nasty to people. But a dreamer of castles, and Princes and dragons and those are the best dreams of all.

But Dropbear can also be crazy and evil and shy and jealous and do horrible things. In other words he is a bit like pretty much everyone.

This tale is unusual because I can tell you the ending: Dropbear tried to repent of these evil ways. He wanted to stop being an evil, dreaming anti-hero. He wanted to do some good. But why did Dropbear want to be selfless and good? That needs some explanation.

The Freedom Force Pub

Dropbear was a Commander of the Freedom Force. He had fought missions and done his best, although his best was not always good enough. He loved his country and his mates, and he liked his new found adorableness. But he wanted more.

He wanted to be a ruthless irascible pirate like Pontius, or a conniving and handsome Spymaster like Gerakken, or a super-organised and respected Supreme Leader like Ray the Wanderer, or the President of the CariElf Fanclub like MM77, or a loveable and wise wombat like Wild Wombat. But he was none of those things, and never would be.

In other words, Dropbear was feeling a bit down and a bit jealous, and maybe a bit unloved. To stifle a sob he took a swig of a rather nice Kiwi pinot and looked around the bar. His current mates were here: a small group, loyal and true. The nightly chess game had ended with Bakka beating Ajm37 again.

Dropbear knew that he and Hurls would drink each other under the table before this night was through: he had found a good Shiraz, which Hurls would appreciate. But Dropbear also had another agenda for this night: he wanted to unburden his soul. And who else to do that with, than one’s mates?

As well, he had an ending to make: and a new beginning too.

Earlier

Dropbear’s Private Hell

Dropbear dropped the message crystal in disbelief. The moving image winked out. Yet, he picked the message crystal up again, and this time, replayed it, time and again. Afterwards, he had some thinking to do. With a heavy heart, he entered his battleaxe, the CariElf, and took her into space.

An Evil Pirate

Dropbear was evil and loved nothing better than to bribe and wheel and deal.

He measured the pirate with his eyes. The pirate could be suborned: Dropbear could see that in an instant. The question was at what cost? And with how much effort?

The gold, reflected in the pirate’s eyes, was a sparkle that held no lustre. But the pirate could not see that. “Arr. Gold. Bright and yellow, hard and cold. Heavy to get and light to hold.” The pirate squinted at Dropbear. “What must ah do, evil one, for the prize ya offer me?” Dropbear gazed back, with a forlorn look: “The price is high. But not so high that one such as you would not pay the price. Betrayal, spying, murder and mayhem. And…especially information. A bargain at any price!”

The pirate nodded. “Oh yes, a small price to pay for gold in the hand”. The pirate spat in his other hand and offered it to the bear. “Let’s shake adorable little bear”.

Dr Quinn’s Consulting Rooms

Dr Quinn was misunderstood. Long had she practiced and with quite good results. True, she had often misdiagnosed Pontius, but he made her nervous. She could not diagnose under pressure.

She cackled wildly. “Ah raven what shall we do? Our small collection of animals has dwindled to naught. How shall we continue our experiments, eh?” She whacked the dissection table with her scalpel. Dr Quinn’s raven fluttered and squawked. Quoth the Raven, “Nevermore!”

“Why Raven, do you admonish me?” She laughed gaily. “Animals of the woods we need, or better yet, talking animals! Yes, large talking animals. Or dare I dream…a man. MUHAHAHAHA”. She laughed a little insanely and drew the scalpel across her palm, with tenderness and a little madly.

The raven looked at the red, red blood in the flickering candlelight.

CariElf’s Temple

He walked down the boulevard, the memories almost overpowering. The fights, the tragedies, the characters, the Pres! The Temple shone with such a light as he approached: a light of clarity and goodness.

How did I leave the path of goodness so quickly, wondered Dropbear. How easily evilness beckons and then sucks one dry. He had fought his monsters and lost and could never return to the fold of the Viscountess. Or perhaps he could. No man can truly know the course of time, he thought.

But not yet. The pirate had been a useful spy on the Ship of Doom. Dropbear now had verification of the claims that had been made in the message crystal. “The burden I bear is too great”, wailed Dropbear. “The knowledge that I have, I can no longer hold and stay sane. I must confess, if only to my mates”.

Dropbear took one last soulful look, and left the Skowbo swamps, forlornly.

From the shadows the Pres watched him leave: “You shall return Vice Pres” he murmured. “And she shall heal your soul. Goodbye for now adorable, little bear” he shouted into the dank, swamp air.

The CariElf swept up into the sky and departed the planet, sadly.

Jimmie and Peggy-Sue

Peggy-Sue nodded enthusiastically. “I love Star Trek, and especially Captain Janeway. The power, the command, the authority”. The inflection on the last word made the waiter wince and move quickly past the couple’s table.

Foolishly, Jimmie wasn’t listening: “Yes and science fiction…”
“Oh, Jimmie. I love SciFi, the goofy stories and…and…all…that stuff”.
Jimmie was in seventh heaven. He had finally, he had truly, found his soul mate.

The Ship of Doom: The Officers’ Mess

CypherPax was being led out again. Mrs Pax stood at the door of the Officers’ mess, waiting patiently. She clutched a rolled-up magazine. Pontius shuddered: he knew how much pain a rolled-up newspaper could do: let alone a Marie Claire!

“Ah mate”, he said, “How’s the eye?” CypherPax looked from his good eye, silently imploring. Silently he mouthed ‘save me’. Pontius shook his head somewhat sadly, the Paxes had not been married long, and Cypher still had some learning experiences to suffer.

Cypher slumped as the waiters led him towards his doom: “The festering has stopped” he muttered, just before the door closed.

Pontius shook the Pirate Times and settled down for a read. The plush armchair enveloped him. Gerakken sat down beside him, somewhat stiffly: “Pontius, where was that banging coming from…” Pontius shook his head again: “Ya don’t want to know”.

Some minutes later, Pontius gasped: “Would ya look at this Gerras!”, inclining his head towards an article that only he could see.

Gerakken looked up sharply. He had his reports to flick through and was tiring of Pontius’ constant references to popular culture. “Who’s done what to whom?” he asked, concisely.

Pontius was oblivious. “Why, huh, gee, that’s funny…” He petered out. Gerakken was wise to this strategy, but could not help himself. “What, what, WHAT?”
Pontius looked up puzzled. “Um, gosh Gerras…settle down”. Pontius read out the article, which was directed at pirates and so was short and in very simple English. They looked thoughtful. “So the mutants are in turmoil! How odd.”

Jimmie’s Wedding

Young Jimmie’s wedding was spectacular. From the badly dressed bridesmaids, to the photo session in the botanical gardens, every piece had been carefully planned and executed.

Jimmie was beaming. “Gosh Mr Pax, what can I say. It has been magical. We fit like a hand in a glove. Why, my Peggy-Sue may be much older than me, but she has been the best thing that has walked through my front door since sliced bread”. Cypher looked as if he was about to say something, but he felt a presence behind him. “Of course lad”.

Peggy-Sue showed her engagement ring to her friends, Mary-Lou and Janeese. “Yea, it’s nice. It’s unusual. It’s different” they said in unison.

Pontius was leering at the women from a safe distance. He quickly looked around for Mrs Pilot who had momentarily disappeared, before leaning towards Gerakken. “What foxy ladies they are!” Gerakken looked at Pontius quizzically, before he coughed.

Mrs Pilot came up and saw the direction of Pontius’ gaze. “Ponshie!” She studied Pontius’ face very carefully: “They are pretty things aren’t they?” Pontius looked utterly innocent: “Oh, um. Actually, I hadn’t noticed”.

Pontius had learnt that lesson early and well.

The Ship of Doom: The Spymaster’s Coterie

‘Judge a man by his questions rather than by his answers’, thought the Spymaster. ‘Hmmm. I wonder what that means?’

Gerakken looked around his coterie. Spies and weasels, undercover men, standover men, Yor droids and chambermaids. A motley collection to make him proud.
“What news, my friends?” Before they could answer, Gerakken coughed suddenly: his flu was getting much worse.

Dr Quinn and Gerakken

Gerakken could barely lift his weak head. The Elven flu had taken hold of him, firmly.

“Dr Quinn, do you have aspirin?” Dr Quinn looked at Gerakken disconcertingly. “Ah, neurophen then…?” Dr Quinn began to take her blouse off, button by button, all the time licking her lips. In, out, in, out: darted her long, sharp, red tongue.

Gerakken blanched with fear. “Dr Quinn, I am a happily married man, what of your morals?” Dr Quinn shrugged: “Once I had morals. Once I was young”. The last button was undone.

Gerakken squirmed and thrashed. “But what of your ethics as a doctor? What of your doctor’s registration?” The blouse came off: “Once I had ethics. Once I was registered”.

The too-handsome Spymaster began to sob. He knew he should have taken Pontius’ advice and seen Dr Spock instead.

Peggy-Sue

Peggy-Sue sobbed. “There, there” said Mary-Lou with a hidden grin.

Peggy-Sue could not be consoled: “Mary-Lou, it has all changed. Since we married, Jimmie has changed.” This revelation shocked even Mary-Lou.

“If I’d known that the flowers and the nights out every night were going to stop, I’d never have got married!”

Finally

The Freedom Force Pub

Dropbear began his tale slowly, as if he lacked courage to continue.

“Mates, the story I tell you is pitiful, but it is not your pity I seek. This night I shall unburden my soul: and in truth I seek your understanding. I have not been lucky in love and long have I wished for the joy of marriage. The pleasure of sharing hobbies; discussing science fiction books; playing computer games together; all of those things that married couples do”.

The gathered mates nodded solemnly: they too wished to see every single, happy man married.

“Now I am evil, you know that. But I am a little crazy too. Once I lived on Skowbo, and held a position of some repute in the Viscountess’ employ”. The gathered group stirred, for Dropbear rarely spoke of those halcyon days.

“Ah, the adulation, the poetry, the chocolate….and Gerakken. Always Veteran Gerakken”. Dropbear’s chill voice became icy. He stifled a sob. “That handsome, common pirate tormented me. Why, do you know he won every award for his prose? Every one! I quoted Wordsworth for sheep’s sake! Do you think they knew. Or cared?”

Several minutes later Dropbear pulled himself together with some effort. Wombie looked tormented at the strain that showed on Dropbear’s face, the tears matting his fur. He felt Dropbear’s pulse, but let him continue.

“Now a pretty enough lass once visited the Temple. Oh, she was a game one. What a horn bag”. He chuckled. “The times we had...the laughter, the drinking, the late nights cavorting…”
The gathered mates looked both repelled and fascinated.

“But it didn’t last, why, it never does, does it? She left and never returned. I never heard from her again. That is, until this week! The shock! Her message told me all that had happened those many years ago….I have verified what she said of course”

Dropbear straightened and looked ahead without emotion. “This is why I tell you I am leaving the Freedom Force, to join the Pirates”. The group gaped, numb.

“Yea, it is something I must do, to make amends. I was not there when she needed me. She has since married and does not want me now. But our son…”

“You have a son?” asked Wombie quietly.

Dropbear looked down, he could not meet Wombie’s sad, knowing eyes.

“Yes, Peggy-Sue had our son. He was born in the dark recesses of a cargo freighter. The freighter was raided soon after by pirates and our kid was kidnapped. She traced the ship, which did the deed: The Ship of Doom! This is now my destiny! To become a pirate and find my son: to give him the father he never had!”

The gathered mates began crying and hugging as one.
There had been an ending, but a good beginning as well, at least that was how Dropbear felt.

Postscript

Wombie packed his bags thoughtfully. Mates stick together he thought. Hurls came in, and the rest, carrying their bags. “There is one other thing that I didn’t understand last night, Wild Wombat” said Hurley with a frown. “What is Dropbear’s special power?”
Wombie grinned. “Haven’t ya worked it out yet? Why, it’s glamour. When he looks forlorn, ya have to adore him. What a nifty power to have!”

The soon-to-be pirates nodded, thoughtfully. Of course.

And I am sure the import is not as good as the brew in Oz
End of quote

It isn't. The import is made in Canada and tastes different and is packaged different - we don't have those 'oil cans' down here. (I lived in NY state for a couple of years, mainly drank Sam Adams, or Anchor Steam on the East Coast and various Micor Brewery products.) :d

Killa, this is not good news! Please to take care. Is internal alcohol rub prescribed??

Oi Kit, what's the problem?? Hang in their, only many to go.... ;)

OK, looks like Kit's training program has to continue a bit. ;) Alright, you inebriated excuse of a pirate, I want to see you down a six pack without mentioning the word love unless someone else mentions the subject! No staggering around. We're not even at the "illicit teenage drinking" stage with only a six pack. But at least he seems to be a friendly drunk. :)

I'll show ya love. This is one I never posted coz its not funny. It shows how grumpy I am though, so I'll share it now. I have to do exercises to strengthen my inner stomach muscles, can you believe. Didn't know I had any. *sigh* If only I lived with a doctor or at least a chef. Anyways...

Killa's degredation

Killa was in a foul mood.

He stomped around the Ship of Doom, crossly. With an irritated step he entered the Sailor’s Mess.

Wombie waved nicely. “Hi Killa, what a wonderful day.”

Killa glowered at Wombie. “Why?” he asked with asperity.

“I’m glad you asked” chirped Wombie, with a grin. “I had a beaut morning with Mrs Wombat and the kids. And best of all, Captain Pilot has directed that I don’t have to do chores when I’m staying on the Ship of Doom. So no more peeling spuds in the Sergeant’s Mess! Well, must fly, see you around.” Wombie waddled away.

Killa ground his teeth with resentment.

Some hours later in the Sergeant’s Mess, Killa finally threw the potato peeler to the floor in annoyance and nursed his throbbing arthritic hands. He detested potatoes and loathed potato peeling.

Hurls looked over with concern and sympathy on his pleasant face. “Mate, that’s no good. Look, let me finish up here. I’ve got plenty of spare time to waste.”

Killa grudgingly nodded and slunk from the galley with irritation, just as KitWarrior, Quack and a group of sergeants entered. Killa flashed the group an antogonistic look as he passed.

“Hey you. Shorty. You’re not off duty yet. Get back in that kitchen.” Killa glared with impotent rage at the sergeant and walked back to the kitchen in a huff.

Later that evening Killa was perched at the bar, nursing a Pinot. ‘This is a crap red’ he thought with furious passion. ‘What happened to the good Southern reds we had’ he wondered.
“Mary-Lou, what happened to the good Southern reds we had?” he barked passionately.

Mary-Lou, behind the bar, finished wiping a glass. “You know Killa, I don’t serve animals who bark at me.”

Killa had black, wrathful thoughts. “Let me ask nicely then. Can I have a good red this time. I take umbrage at slops like this Northern muck. It’s asinine bile and abhorrent to my taste buds.”

“Well pardon me for breathing. It’s all we’ve got, so piss off.”

Killa threw a bitter glare at Mary-Lou, dropped from the bar stool and loped out of the bar. He fumed with rancour. Nothing was going right lately. Everyone had turned against him. If it wasn’t sergeants and their constant berating and bullying, it was officers pontificating and giving orders. ‘Clean your weapons’, ‘iron your uniform’, ‘march in a straight line and swing your paws’ mimicked Killa with hostility. Killa had a vehement aversion and antipathy to cleaning, ironing and marching under any circumstances. And ever since the CariElf was in the repair docks he’d been unable to get away from the Ship of Doom.

‘Well I’ll bleeding well go to bed’ Killa thought. 'Although I despise my quarters. They’re an abomination.' Killa slunk into bed and had a restless night.

Jaws and Wombie and EBZ chuckled at their joke. Pontius wiped the tears from his eyes. “And another thing, what’s up with Killa?” asked Pontius.

Jaws shrugged. “It’s that time of month again.”

“Oh.” Pontius looked thoughtful. “Um. Come again?”

Jaws looked perplexed. “You know. When he always gets irritated. That time of month.”

Pontius rubbed his chin. “But, I didn’t think…”

“What. That he wasn’t affected? Of course. It’s just that he isn’t as high as everyone-else so it really rubs him the wrong way.”

“I don’t understand.”

“When his score degrades. He keeps getting further away from his mates.”

“Ohhh. That time of month.”

“Yea. Plus Gerakken laughed at his suggestion.”

“Which was?”

“That once anyone reached 100,000 points their score should be re-set to zero so that less advantaged players wouldn’t become disillusioned.”

Pontius looked thoughtful. He knew that the Galactic Council were pushing for that to happen, and he didn’t know whether he had the votes to block it. Only time would tell. He looked at his glass of red. “Nice wine!”

Mary-Lou glanced at the table from her place behind the bar. She grinned. “Yep. It’s our best Tasmanian Pinot. We’re down to the last thousand crates, so I’m keeping it for my favourite customers.”

Pontius winked at Mary-Lou. He said to the group of drinkers, “I like Mary-Lou, she’s straight down the line. But if she thinks you’re a punce…”
The boys nodded. They knew what he meant.

War of the Worlds: Interlude

The communications alert on the Pegasus chimed just as they were finishing dinner.

Alert: Incoming transmission Priority Alpha from Survey Ship of Doom. Message reads as follows: "Wombie, it's time."

Wild Wombat sat bolt upright. That message could only mean one thing - his beloved was entering the early stages of wombat labour. Their next eight were about to enter the world - and he was ten lights years away!

"Pegasus - red alert! Compute intersect vector with Survey Ship of Doom on last known trajectory. Maximum transwarp to rendevous with the Doom and hail them when we're in docking range. Tell them to get the sick bay ready but DON'T do anything else - NO ONE is to TOUCH Mrs. Wombat until I get there."

The pirates strapped themselves in for maximum transwarp and watched the Doppler effects on the viewscreen as the Pegasus' mighty engines drove the magnificent starship across the void. Presently, the gigantic bulk of the transforming Survey Ship of Doom grew large on their screens.

Wombat leapt from his command chair and ran down the corridor. "Open the pod bay doors, Peg!"

I'm sorry, Wombat. I can't do that.

What?! You fiendish machine - my wife's in labour! I must get to her! What do you think you're doing! I'll have you turned into scrap!!

Wombat...we don't have any pod bay doors. If you'd like to go down to the docking hatch...

"Oh."

...idiot. And don't try that on the HALibut.

Wombat raced down the stairwells on the Doom and arrived in sick bay, to see Dr. Quinn in sterile gown and mask, snapping on a pair of surgical gloves. "Wait!!" he cried. "You don't know anything about wombat birthing - just stand back and let me do it!"

"Now Wombat, I realise expectant fathers get very nervous in these situations. While I haven't actually performed wombat births, I have a broad range of experience with...unusual...er...anatomical positions and there is no need for concern." Dr.Quinn even managed to blush slightly.

"Oh? And I suppose you made Rookie of the Year when you started Triple-A?" said Wombat, adjusting his facemask and pulling on his double-strength chest protector. "And kept equally well to lefties and righties with the record lowest error rate in your first pro season?" He pulled on his favourite catchers mitt. "Back in the bullpen, Doc!"

Wild Wombat settled himself into his crouch and positioned himself carefully some distance from the end of the bed.

"Wombie...." said a faint feminine voice, floating from the pillow.

"Let 'er rip, darlin!"

Mrs. Wombat groaned, tensed her tummy, heaved and the first wombat nipper soared out and over the end of the bed; a routine delivery that hit the catchers mitt with a satisfying thud. The newborn nipper wriggled and waved his paws, and Wombat kissed him quickly and placed him gently in the extended crib beside him.

The next one came out as a nasty sinker, and Wombat reached forward and took her a scant inch above the floor.

"SAFE!!" roared Dr. Quinn.

The next two arrived high and inside, and the fifth was a heater, right down the pipe. Mrs. Wombat lifted her head off the pillow, looked at him and winked. Wombat grinned back; his wife had always had a wicked fastball. Wombat watched lovingly as the little bundles piled up and cuddled together in the crib. The sixth was a easy curveball and the seventh a tricky reverse swinging knuckleball that landed in the mitt with a squeal of delight.

"Wombie...I don't think I can go on..." whispered Mrs. Wombat. Wombat threw down the glove, signalled a time out, and strode up to the pillow. "Listen, we haven't got this far for you to fall over now! Push this one out - and gimme all ya got!"

Wombat walked back, picked up the glove, and settled just in time to pick up the eighth, a beautiful slider taken at mid calf level. He knew there were times when you just had to coax out that extra effort.

Wombat drew a deep breath, and gazed at their eight new nippers. He marveled at their cuteness...and was suddenly knocked off his feet and into the far wall by a huge red mass. "Hmm...forgot the placenta..." he said, wiping his face and hands with a towel.

Wombat nippers were sources of endless fascination. Given their manner of entry to the world, they were actually as tough as nails at birth. Possessed of basic communication skills, which allowed survival in a big litter who all wanted to get to the food and drink at once, they were almost painfully naive and imprinted readily on those around them. Absolutely adorable; almost as much as their older siblings, born a year ago. In fact, there wasn't really much to pick in age differences between wombat nippers over the first few years.

He moved the crib over to the end of the bed and kissed his beloved wife. She looked down into the crib and beamed back at him. "Oh Wombie...eighteen nippers now...we've got our own footy team..." she said in a dreamy voice.

Wombat recognised the Post Natal Euphoria. He knew this stage well; it would be followed by the mercifully brief Post Natal Depression, and then by...the horror...of the Post Natal Spending Spree. The first litter had nearly bankrupted him, until he had worked out the Social Security system and organised the negative gearing on the mansion and the Jag. Eight wouldn't be QUITE so bad, he hoped.

At that moment the door burst open and they were surrounded by their first litter of ten, and the crew of the Pegasus, the Doom, all their pirate mates and friends. Mrs. Pilot and Mrs. Pax fussed and cooed around Mrs. Wombat, assuring her that men had nooooo idea how hard this all was, and developing an early list for her Spending Spree. The older siblings, pirates and friends started to introduce themselves and play with the nippers, and somehow, someone produced some alcoholic beverages to celebrate the event....

...Wombat looked around the room at the celebrations. Uncle Pontius sat in a corner, crooning gently in a soft baritone, as a nipper curled up and fell asleep in his top pocket. One nipper kept disappearing, then reappearing behind curtains, doors...ahhh...Uncle Gerakken. Quack kept trying to hypnotize one nipper into pouring him a beer on command, and Jaws offered early swimming lessions - even in her euphoric state, Mrs. Wombat firmly said no to that.

Killa held one particular nipper with a curly tail, and kept dropping him - only to see him bounce off his tail and back up into his lap. "This one's a natural, Wombie," he said, cuddling the little one. Hurley sternly supervised a couple of nippers trying to pad across a sheet of rice paper stretched on the floor without leaving any marks. Wombat saw KitWarrior earnestly talking to one youngster in a corner - he made a mental note to keep an eye on that one. Cypher watched as Ashlyn played dress-ups with one nipper, or at least that was what it looked like - until Wombat realised she had dressed the nipper in camoflage gear and was teaching him to field-strip an Uzi.

Friends called round too, and ObiWan brought Yoda's small light sabre to entertain the nippers. Two of them began fighting over the sabre and Obi rushed over shouting "No, no - that leads to the Dark Side!" Theoden insisted of giving all the nippers horsey-rides up and down the corridor. ajm helped, although Wombat got a bit nervous placing young wombats between the spines on the thorny devil's back.

Wombat took in the scene: his beloved missus, his darling nippers, good mates, good booze....he looked out the viewport into the depths of space. His paw went to the long scar behind his left ear...and he shivered slightly. In the midst of such joy, he somehow felt that a storm was gathering....

Hey, guys. I just realized my comment about not understanding Aussies may have been misconstrued. Hope I didn't offend anybody, but sometimes the lingo is a little strange! :D Of course, American lingo is really odd, too!

Anyways, good morning

Hate to dissapoint ya. Neither are actual micro brews any more. Both are farmed out to several breweries. But both are very good mass produced beers.
I love Sam Adams cream stout. My favorite mass produced beer.

i was going to correct him by saying that the american lingo isn't odd. Just simple. but that would off caused a flame war so I didn't say it.

LMAO Wombie. I can just picture you yelling... "come on mrs shoot it right down the old pepper there no batter no batter"

Meanwhile at the bar. Uh Marry Lou, what exactly have you been serving the punces?

Why Franzia wine in the box of course. I tell em it's a good Pinot from the north.

Uggggh. Well even a punce could tell Central Valley Jug Swill isn't a good pinot. Upgrade to that midgrade Sonoma Valley stuff we stole off the mwc. At your discretion of course.

Pontius' master plan to rip apart the ringworms was going well. Step 1 had been completed. And was ready for implementation. Killa, Kit, Jaws, Hurley, you're with me. To the Defiant.

EBZM: You have the con of the doom. Wombat, Take the Pegasus.

"Just what is your plan Pontius?" they asked. Here look these books over. We have cases of them for distribution to every Warhammer store, and every game store in their empire. But first, we are to gather the results of a little test run. Put on your monk hoods. To the Inn of the Glue Factoried Pony.

"But Pontius, They LIKE this D & D junk. They play it even in the metaverse here, How is this going to hurt them?"
They each opened the revised D & D Mega Geek Expert rules.

Turn to Page Uhhh lets pick one 20.

Killa: But what does a 57th level Wizard spell shall always overcome a 56th level Elven spell have to do with anything.?
Kit: You read it wrong. It says a 56th level Elven spell will always overcome a 57th level Wizard spell, except on Tuesday.
Jaws: Kit you need Glasses. It says that on odd days of the week a 57th level Wizard spell prevails but on even, the 56th level Elven prevails and that that game cannot be played on Sundays.
Hurley: Hmmm Mine says the first to cast shall always prevail as determined by the dungeon Master.
Pontius: and there's a copy that says you may kill your dungeon master if you don't like the fact he killed off your character.

HEHE. The books have a bunch of different rules in them. Now lets beam down.

The Crew hiked to the Inn of the Glue Factoried Pony. Surprisingly, they had some Aussie brews. They all got pints of course and were not surprised to see Ray and several other groups of the Ringworms off in the corner playing D And D. Suddenly a fight erupted.
I AM A 57TH LEVEL WIZARD YELLED ONE. MY SPELLS TAKE PRECEDENCE.
NO THEY DON'T. IT'S TUESDAY.
WHERE THE F... DID YOU READ THAT?
PAGE 20. CAN'T YOU READ?
WHY I OUGHTTA SMACK YOU.
Dungeon Master: Guys Guys.
SHUT UP. KILL OFF MY CHARACTER AND I'LL KILL YOU.

"Say do they always do that?, asked Pontius to one of the barmaids."

Oh ye are new around here. Where ye from? Ya, they always hang out in the corner, the geeks, play that stupid game.... nary a tip or a look at a pretty damsel.

We're from Darion. And If I must say so meself, it's there loss not seeing a pretty maiden for what she is.

Oh Flattery, will get ye everywhere.

"WHY DON'T YE ALL JUST SHUT UP," Yelled one patron at the ringworms.

OH YEAH, WHY DON'T WE JUST TURN YOU INTO A TOAD. A ringworm yelled back.

Suddenly Pontius jumped up and yelled. LETS SHOW THESE GEEKS WHAT IT'S LIKE WHEN WE REASSERT THE HIGHSCHOOL PECKING ORDER!!!!!! SWIRLIES!!!!!!!

Instantly the Bar patrons grabbed the Ringworms areound the waste, armes down at their sides, So that they couldn't cast any spells their staves left behind in the corner.

Ray: Unhand me you Bard!!! I'm a grand wizard, I can kill you at will.

Patron: Yes Pardue, I've heard all about you. The men in white coats will take you away soon. He went into the Lavratory, turned Ray over and flushed. Ray came out with a nice Swirled hairstyle. One by one the rest of the players were dumped and swirlied.

Ray went back for his staff, he was going to put an end to this. He began to chant his Sleep spell when he was run through by a cutlass.

Ye must learn to chant faster thar Wizard Ray. And Ray fell dead as a doornail.

Meanwhile the rest of the ringworms were given their swirlies in due turns, the Pirates had snuck out and back to the defiant. The books were distributed widely. All D and D games throughout the fellowship came to a halt as no one could agree on the rules. They quickly degenerated to I got you. No you didn't I had a shield. Yes I did I had a shield Penetrating sword. No you didn't I had a shield penetrating sword shield. Yes I did, I had a shield penetrating sword shield penetrating sword. And so on and so on. .

One by one the same thing happened to every fantasy game throughout the empire creating utter chaos.

Back on the pegasus:
Wombat: You know they will just say they reanimated Ray don't you Pontius?

Pontius: Of course, which means we get to torture and kill him off again. All the better.

hypnotize one nipper into pouring him a beer on command

I trained my daughter to fetch beer on command - I wouldn't let her pour; she'd have drunk it too.

Posse log, page 30: The bold pirates of the Posse have been beset by baby wombats and rumors of substandard beer. Cheap beer?!? Who would dare? Such an outrage cannot stand! Next thing we know, they will be throwing us cases of Keystone and it would take the entire bloody thing to even get a buzz. Oh, the shame of it.

LOL LOL LOL I endorse Kit's remarks! VERY disturbing image Wombie! I loved the image of 18 nippers crawling around too. I wonder whether you'll ever attempt to name them. Sorta like that Simpsons episode of the hillbilly family.

Pontius: LOL LOL LOL You're finally letting the old ANZACs off the hook.

Gerakken: And cheap Pinot.

Killa:

Re: naming nippers - I have this thought that everyone here could kind of 'adopt' a nipper each (godparent?)and include them in stories if desired. You could name your own nipper then!
