What's happening!?

OK, I know this is a shot in the dark, 'cause there are a million reasons for these things happening, but I was hoping there was some PC guru out there who might have an idea... These things have happened to my computer in the last few weeks, one by one...

-CorelDRAW 9 no longer opens. I've tried reinstalling. It starts to load, then just quits.

-when rightclicking on a picture file, and saying open with Paintshop Pro 6.. it says "Windows cannot locate the file..." However PSP6 opens, and the files can be opened from there... and all files can still be viewed with Windows picture and fax viewer. This same thing occurs with CorelDRAW files.

-When going to Control panel, accounts page... only a blank white window opens with the back and forward arrows in the corner... no account info appears... same thing happens if I click my icon on the start menu.

-Windows Media Player 10 will not run... says "Internal Application Error"

-HP Scanner program will not open... similar to CorelDRAW 9, it starts to load, then just quits.


I always have virus protection running and a firewall. And I've done these things... Virus scan, defrag, ran a cleanup program, reinstalled HP scanner software and CorelDRAW 9, nothing has changed.

PLEASE DON'T TELL ME I NEED TO REINSTALL WINDOWS...

-just got to work - there is a nice shiney purple CD-R in a jewel case on my Desk. no label...hmmmm

inserting... checking....is it?...is it?... YES

I GOTTA DISK!! YAY!! My FC came through!!

Y'all can't see it, but this Troll's doing a happy dance.

Can't wait to get home to see if it fixes my BIT.
(Right after I finish the download! No Retreat - No Surrender)

Can't...they still have a protection order in force from the last time I wandered in and said: "Hey, look..I need help...my BIT's broke."

In my defense... I honestly thought the PC after the name meant computer. I swear. Really.

I actually misused the word "ain't" intentionally because SD burned my spelling.

Congrats Bichur... what a feeling when a 3 day download finishes, huh? Should we put out an APB on boss? I bet he's at his chair hard at work on some Vista logons! Meanwhile, I'm compiling a mental list of at least 10 so far ideas for Vista walls when I get my Corel going again. I jsut keep putting off bringing it in... I'm gonna miss it while it's gone for a few days...

Yes, Bichur... I tried installing a newer version, an older version, and no version at all... and it made no difference. I don't think that was it. I seem to have exhausted all software related problems... now it's time to have the hardware checked out, get that bios battery changed and see what else might be going on in there. I've been told that if it is the bios battery, it won't necessarily reverse the problems it has caused to have it changed... but it will prevent it from doing anymore harm... we'll see.
