Xbox 360 & Media Center

Tales from Redmond

I'm here in Redmond this week and one of the cool things that I saw (that i can talk about) is the Windows XP Media Edition integration with the upcoming XBox 360 game console.

The Xbox 360 is a high definition Media Center extender that allows Media Center to be displayed on your Xbox 360.  Hence, your Xbox can double as a Tive-type device as well with it.  Of course, it means you have to have Media Center somewhere first.  But that's what one would call "synergy".

The XBox 360 looks incredibly slick. It's "blade" menu is easy to navigate and with its synergy with Media Center it's likely to be a big hit.

Yep, from what I've seen/heard the integration of Media Center and the 360 is really supposed to be something! It almost makes me want to buy one. I mean, I like the XBox and everything, but give me a Revolution and I'll be a happy camper

Any news on the price? On Winsupersite Paul Thurrott guesses somewhere between 300-500$ in the US.

I'm still not going to buy a Xbox or a 360...

The secret meeting:
Bill Gates: "I heard that you got a Jag"

Brad: "Yeah Bill, it sure is nice!"

Bill Gates: "Let me tell you some SAAB stories..."

The Xbox 360 integration with Media Center is interesting

This feature alone (Media Center integration) would possibly be the only reason I would buy an xbox360, as it would be nice to let something else do the work for my media center needs and free up my computer so my wife doesn't always complain at me.

thomassen, I heard the price is going to be around $300 US.

On IGN one of their articles quoted Bill Gates saying it will come out at the standard new console price "around $299". I was goin' to reserve mine at EBGames, but their first shipment has already been reserved, and they expect their second shipmant like 1-4 months after the release date.
This is how I felt walkin into EBGames:
After I didn't get to reserve it:
Leaving EBGames:
Leaving the mall:
Remembering that I didn't reserve my XBOX 360:

I am thinking I will get the XBOX 360 and pass on the PS3.

Why? Because the PS3 is trying to be everything except a game consol. The current extemated price for the PS3 is somewhere like 500 dollars.

No way am I going to by that for 500 or even wait 2 years and get it for 300 while the 360 will cost 200 (2 years from now that is).

Plus I can connect it to my computer too? COME ON!! XBOX is going to be my next system. I'll get the PSP handheld; no question, but the PS3 is not happening (unless they come up with some real gaming stuff that is cool, not a huge entertainment system that substitutes for a cable box/stereo/TV)

I'm also a little wary of the fact that Microsoft will be able to sell targeted ad space within the games they sell for the 360, the gaming platform and the graphics look awesome, but I really hate product placement.
