Antigaming activist Jack Thompson, who was part of the Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas controversy has found another game to pick on, one that he says is far worse. The Florida lawyer's new game that he has in his sights now is none other than Electronic Arts' The Sims 2. The Sims 2, rated Teen, is a widely popular life simulation game where players perform tasks from the exciting to the mundane as they influence the lives of simulated people.
In a release sent to press outlets Thompson says, "Sims 2, the latest version of the Sims video game franchise ... contains, according to video game news sites, full frontal nudity, including nipples, penises, labia, and pubic hair." Thompson claims that using a cheat code the Sims, including children, can be stripped of "the blur" effect that EA placed to cover a player's private regions. Says the statement, "much to the delight, one can be sure, of pedophiles around the globe who can rehearse, in virtual reality, for their abuse."
Gamespot contacted EA in regards to these allegations and vice president of corporate communications at EA, Jeff Brown, stated, "This is nonsense. We've reviewed 100 percent of the content. There is no content inappropriate for a teen audience. Players never see a nude sim. If someone with an extreme amount of expertise and time were to remove the pixels, they would see that the sims have no genitals. They appear like Ken and Barbie."
