First reactions to GalCiv beta 1E

I finally was able to get DGM to work...however, I still get upgrade access errors where it tries to upgrade DGM.

GalCiv looks to be a great follow-on to the OS/2 version. I like the tech tree (at least as far as I could get into it). I really haven't fully deciphered it though.

Kinda hard to play and not get killed, cause the strategy when all of the components are fully operational is different than a military strategy...but I've adjusted... ;)

The color scheme is dark and dreary. Maybe OK if I was evil but perhaps you'll have a brighter "set" for good players?

The robot on the research screen is hypnotic.

The major bugs I run into are clicking on ships on the ship screen or when 2 are stacked up. Windows XP shoots the game process. This is the primary reason for me not finishing a game (that is one I didn't lose) ;)

I feel like I lose track of ships and haven't yet got a good feel for how to keep track of them. I'm afraid of the ship screen due to bugs described above.

Combat takes too long to calculate for >10 billion. I have a 2GHz P4.

I found survey ships with a defense factor of 15 that my battleships died attacking. Doesn't make sense.

I was playing on "Idiot" level...that's where I'm at right now ;)

You can hit the space bar again to abort the invasion stuff (i.e. hit the space bar again).
