1. One can trade ships and stuff with alien races without universal translator

2. Screen gets corrupted when hittin esc in the "speak-to" screen to bring up the options.

You can't build freighters without trade. Trade requires universal translator.

Not that kind of trade- The "speak-to trade" where one can trade ships, systems, money, research, whatever.
