game crashing to desktop and other concerns

Hi,
I have a savegame that is consistently crashing the game. When I click on restore last civilization, it is loading up to 89% then crashes back to desktop. What can I do
to help guess where the problem is ?
BTW, it may be related to cultural victory. Eager to test the cultural conquest, I selected only idiot opponents and started to outclass them culturally. The crash occurs in a situation where I *may* be culturally winning.
BTW, my first impressions on the cultural systems are not conclusive, as I played only against the poorer AI level. But I have noticed some thing that may need further beta testing :
* The domino effect : where you have a strong cultural influence in an area, you can gain a hold in a particular sector by corrupting a lesser planet that enhance your cultural potential in this sector, thus allowing the corruption of more important planets. In the end of the game, I had conquered whole sectors easily this way.
* The limitless cultural power. I was trying to expand my empire by building starbases and social improvements on my planets, and I had neglected to explore. Suddenly, on a turn, I discovered that 2 totally unknown planets joined my empire. I would expect that you have at least to learn that the planet exists before integrating it into the empire.
* On a totally different subject, I have to complaints regarding the diplomacy screen. I think it is given too much information. When meeting for the first time a civilization, just go to the diplo screen to learn the number of planets, the techs possessed, the size of the fleet... It may be too much.
* On the same subject, I conquered two minor civs by exchanging all my techs (and in some case influence points) against their only planet. I lose nothing, since the minor cease to exist, and I win a planet. In my case it was very beneficial since I stumbled upon the minor after entering a wormhole, bargained his planet, and started to culturally expand from there. Both planets where culturally strong, I suppose it is by design to prevent minors who do not build cultural building to resist better... But it may be random.
