Game crashes

I have windows XP and 1.05 version of the game and than I am playing the game, it some times crashes and exiting from the game without any error message or something.
What can be the problem?
How it can be solved?

Map size matters little. I've crashed tiny maps on xp as well. Also on version 1.05. And having turned off all background programs. Put your autosave on 4-10 turns and pray mate. :notsure:

I don't know about the author but I have tried the whole updating mp3 codecs deal. And I have no mods on my game, in fact it's pretty much factory default plus the update to version 1.05 and the bonus pack.

I can't say much except to say it probably isn't windows xp on it's own doing it. I have windows xp and the game has never crashed on me. And I'm on the beta now but I didn't have problems with 1.05 either.

well all i know it that soem poeple )including me) have been having crashes with tiny maps so try to play a small map and see if it crahes during the game.

well then i dont now why it is crahing cuase it works fine on my computer:

Windows 2000 Pro, 256MB RAM, 32 MB VIDEO CARD, Sound Blaster Sound Card.

Windows XP doesn't automatically crash Galactic Civilzations. Like I already said on this thread I have XP and it's never crashed on me. And I almost always play on Gigantic Maps, I wouldn't think a smaller map would be more likely to crash.

Yup, I play on XP as well. Very stable on all map sizes.

Here are some steps to take (it helped me long ago with my crashes):

-Update video driver (check your video card manufactuer's webiste for updated drivers)
-Update DirectX (used to be directX 9.0a, now its 9.0b [I haven't tested this though] http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=141D5F9E-07C1-462A-BAEF-5EAB5C851CF5&displaylang=en) You can check to see if you at least have 9.0a by clicking on start > run > type in dxdiag ...and you should see the info.
-Update yours OS (for windows OS's http://www.windowsupdate.com)

Those are about the three biggest things that can help. Other's can be from having DivX codecs, to corrupted GalCiv files.

WinDVD, Winamp3, DVD2MP, and Moonlight Coordless's Xmuxer are known to have buggy sound codecs. Uninstalling these programs (or sometimes just removing the buggy codecs) will solve the problem if they are causing the crashes. 

SmartException can generally report what codec caused the crash.  It's available under Free Stuff in Stardock Central.  When it pops up the dialog, click Submit, then Open Log directory and there should be a file in that directory Galciv.exe.cra.  If not, check the directory where you installed SmartException.
