Activision Inks Marvel Deal

Late last week Activision announced that it has extended its licensing deal with comic book giant Marvel Enterprises. Creators of the top selling Spider-man franchise have snapped up another deal that will allow Activision to create a "non-persistent role playing game for console and PC based on the collective universe of marvel's super hero characters."
The deal essentially allows Microsoft to continue work on its Super Hero based MMORPG using the Marvel license while at the same time enabling Activision to create another game based on its current RPG series, X-Men Legends. The first game from the new deal is expected to release in 2007 but for those who can't wait X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse is expected to save mankind on September 20th.
"We are proud of the success we have had with games based on the Marvel licenses," states Ron Doornink, Chairman, Activision Publishing, Inc. "This agreement further strengthens and helps to solidify our position as the number one publisher of Super Hero games."
In other Activision news comes an appointment to the company's Board of Directors. Activision has announced that Richard Sarnoff has been appointed to the board, largely due to his role at Random House New Media where he reigned supreme in the mobile and wireless areas.
"We welcome Richard to the Activision Board," said Robert Kotick, Chairman and CEO, Activision, Inc. "His substantial experience in the mobile and wireless arena coupled with his strong corporate development background and distinguished career will be an asset to our Board and management team as we continue to pursue our strategic objectives." Those objectives you ask? Dominating the world of course!
