Minimum requirements and economy

I've had difficulty figuring out what the minimum syteme requirements are of this game! It works on some older systems but nowhere near all. Also the Economic model is vague at best - it seems the alien races all have a significant monetary advantage even at cakewalk level! - Can any of you help me with either of these issues?
