Gamespot has gathered new information on TBS' upcoming gaming service, GameTap. The service is planned to allow consumers access to hundreds of games for a low monthly fee of $14.95. The service, which will carry games from numerous platforms from Atari 2600 to SEGA Dreamcast to PC, will run games using emulation and non-emulation methods to straight simulations.
The broadband-only service has already collected a large library of games from Ubi Soft, including Beyond Good & Evil and the first two Splinter Cell games with more to come and more companies to join. Although the service will launch with those newer games, TBS' vision for GameTap is to create a place that will allow developers to extend the life of an old game and make a portal for niche market and experimental games. Thus, the service is unlikely to receive a game on its release date, but instead allow it to have its run at retail before it is up for download. TBS plans on launching the service on October 3rd with beta testing already underway.
