DesktopX Causes Script Problems in IE, and others

Must constantly reinstall scripten.exe

Somewhere I found thread where someone was having similar problems to me, but I can't find it anymore so I'm starting a new one. Ever since I installed IP my Internet Explorer and some other programs have been mess up. Windows don't pop up when they are supposed and java applets don't run right. I also have problems with Weatherbug.

The other thread mentioned to get MS' Script installer, scripten.exe. Running that installer temporarily fixes all of my problems. I don't know where I got it, but I reinstall that program several times a week. Almost after ever reboot. This is a pain in the butt.

Does anybody have any other permanent solutions? I'm ready to uninstall IP, but then all my Icons will get messed up and I'll spend a couple of days getting them back in order.

Please Help Me!
Thanks.

!
EDIT: I originally started this thread thinking it was IP, now I have concluded that it is DesktopX, so I have edited the title accordingly.

FYI whenever I create a new post I try to put it in the right program section, by pulling down OD>IP but it always puts my posts in the default OD forum. I'm using Firefox1.6, I don't know if it is a forum bug or browser bug.

Depending on your version of IP... have you tried deregistering the iprepair.dll?

go to the start menu and choose 'Run' and type this in the box :

regsvr32.exe /u "c:\program files\stardock\object desktop\iconpackager\iprepair.dll"

and hit enter. Then if you have Stardock Central update IconPackager.

Thanks, I did that, but I must already be using the latest 3.00f[b].002, because there were no updates. Should I uninstall and reinstall? Are these problems common?

After running the regsvr32 line I still had problems with IE. I re-installed the scripten.exe and bingo all is good. What is causing this problem? Why do I have to re-install MSScript after every boot?

See if this fixes the re-boot problem:

Start/ Run.
regsvr32 jscript.dll
enter
regsvr32 vbscript.dll
enter
Re-boot

Funny thing. After this morning's boot, I think most everything was fine. Then I decided to run the jscript.dll and vdscrip lines and reboot. Then script functions wouldn't work anymore. I reinstalled scripten.exe and now I'm back to good operations.

What is the deal?

Should I be emailing Customer support, or do they come here, track troubles, and offer support here.??

This is a pain in the butt. I know how to fix it everyday, so it doesn't bother me, but it bothers my wife incredibly when I'm not here to fix it.

So now, I've restored my XP icons, unregistered the iprestore.dll, uninstalled IP and registered jscript and vbscript and all was good till I rebooted.

Re-registering jscript fixes the problem till I reboot. I've sent an email to support, but there has to be a solution somewhere.

I found another link with good info http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winxp/t1083625219

The only thing I can think of is that something is unregistering the jscript.dll during the boot process. Is that possible?

You should email tech support directly at [email protected]. That's the best and fastest way to get their assistance.

I haven't heard back from support yet, but I'm tracking it down myself. It seems that it is DesktopX and not IP. I've uninstalled both and cleaned out my DocsNSettings/LocalSet/Stardock/DesktopX folder and cleaned my registry and then reinstalled DesktopX. At first DesktopX would not even run. So I reinstalled scripten.exe. Then it DesktopX would Run.

Then reboot, DesktopX runs, but now scripts are messed up in IE, weatherbug, and others. So I registered the jscript and all was good.

Now I've disabled blocking of scripts in Norton Antivirus 2005, rebooted and all is still good.

But I don't really want to run without script protection, do I?

While Installing Scripten.exe it adds HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce "Regsister WScript" (Notice the spelling regsister) but in (Autoruns) it tells me "File not found -regserver". for this runce once autorun. I wonder if this is what makes us have to keep installing scipten.exe Over and Over which file exactly is it looking for to register. I stumbled across the scipten.exe fix at Symantec trying to use their web pages. Maybe someone will get a fix for this soon.

I've emailed Stardock support. After 10 days of no reply I finally noticed in the auto reply email I got that I had to send another reply with the subject NOT RESOLVED before support will respond directly to my questions. It's been 4 days since I sent that support reply. I'm still waiting patiently.

I also email Symantec they said I should hear back within 24 hours. Still 4 days and nothing. Ahhhhhh, product support can be soo helpful

Can this be fixed, besides disabling ScriptBlocking??????
