Captured technology question

I captured the Torian home world and one of the completed projects is Eyes of the Universe. Do I now get the benefit of that Wonder since I captured it intact? I did the ctrl-r to refresh the sensors but saw no change from before. So is it just wasted now? By the way, I didn't want to attack the Torians but that dang event came up saying they were going to get more powerful every turn...I had all my trade routes to them so this was a major bummer!

Trade goods and wonders are not capturable in Galciv.
So you can't use the Eyes, Robert.

Then why does it show up as if I have it. By all rights then the good should be destroyed once you take the planet if you can't use it after capturing it.

That's a good point, Robert. Maybe SD will consider removing them from the planet build list after capture.

Since GalCiv is an a long term development project, I have a suggestion:

A planet builds a unique improvement. If it survives the invasion, the spoils goes to the victor.

Since we dont really know what each AI planet builds, this could be a bonus for traditional warfare versus core detonation. Sparing the planet's improvements could yield a surprise bonus! LOL

BTW, I've captured planets with Manufacturing Capitols and got the extra 100% production bonus.

Capitols are capturable. Also, thank your lucky stars if you find a capitol in production when you capture it. Don't change that social project!

Interesting! What about ships? I finished building an Avatar and pummeled its races original creator with it to oblivion, that was fun! Unfortunately I couldn't build anymore since I didn't have the tech (I was still researching Dreds!)

I feel that if you capture a planet and complete the construction of an advanced alien vessel you should get that tech or mabye a research bonus when you get around to it :notsure: .

If you capture a planet and find an advanced ship factory, you can churn out that ship to your heart's content. However, once you retool that factory, your engineers would not know how to build that ship again.

That's a good suggestion, Cotal but maybe the developers don't want to make it too easy for us to capture valuable ship tech from AIs. U still get a chance to capture that tech as part of the normal invasion though.

O.K. then here's my question. If you capture a system with a Wonder in it and the Wonder is destroyed, can you then build the Wonder again? What about a trade good. Can you build the trade good if you destroy the race that first created it? If not, that seems logically flawed to me. If I knew how to build a trade good and simply got beat to the punch, I should be able to try and build it once the "supplier" is dead.

No to both, Truz.

Once they are built, no-one can ever build them again.

I could buy the Wonder part of that, maybe, but the trade good thing is bogus. Thanks Ray.

Even if you destroyed the old owner of the trade good you probably couldn't remake it and get the monopoly over it because the AI probably would have already traded it to other races. And one of them having it longer I would expect would have more right to it. I'm just trying to put logic to it. I don't expect stardock to make any changes to this kind of thing.

If you ask me, to close that loophole (including wonders/ capitols being built), if a planet is taken its prod should be set to 'none' and all work lost.
I cannot really imagine alien workers stepping into the Ford motors plant and finishing the current production run...

Of course, in the game I do the same as you - too seductive not to...

I totally agree.
For all who find rationales for the current state of affairs: you've been pounding the planets with millions of soldiers, there have been fights everywhere on the planet, but not a single production unit has been touched by the war. Does that seem strange?
