I am using Windows 2000 professional and I am getting the same. Galciv just exits. Nothing in the debug file no smartexception or anything similar

Is it actually running?

Load it up and see if there are any .cra files.

Ehh btw, it's not visible in the tray - is that a setting somewhere in the registry or in a .ini?

(It IS running according to the task manager)

*Sigh*

Ive had about 10 crashes in various places, not able to reproduce any of them. No hints in debug.err

I'll refrain from doin further tests until I can get a copy of a working smartexception. I cant seem to help ya otherwise. Better put the testing-time when I can help..

smartex file for my CTD trying to load saved game - posted elsewhere but seems better inhere now that i have read this thread properly. This crash may not be totally related, but it is a major CTD and means i cant open a very nicely poised save - never mind.

smartex log emailed to Brad, notepad for file shows-

Not really sure why some of you are having trouble with SE, except that maybe not all of you are using the version that saves stuff as .cra files...there was a version at one point that was supposed to be submitting stuff to a web database, but that wasn't wholly implemented.

Steve, I think that I said this in an earlier thread, but just so that I'm covered, I'll say it again. I think that I've fixed the problem with loading the saved games, so backup your save files so that you can play them again when we get the patch up.

That makes me happy to hear.

I grabbed the copy of SE that Brad pointed to a few days ago, the one in the smartexception_galciv.exe file, and after killing the MCP and Smartexception processes I successfully installed the older version and it runs correctly at system startup but It has yet to actually catch any crashes when they occur.

This is on Window 2000 SP3.

As an aid to diagnostics, the SE Brad put up works on my Win/ME.

The SE file Cari linked to several days ago, which seems to be the same version, does not catch any crashes on my 98SE system.
