Lineage II Hacker Busted

Japanese Officials Arrest Exchange Student

According to the Mainichi Daily News, the Kagawa Police in Japan have arrested a Chinese exchange student who they say has been using a bot hack in Lineage II to steal items. The student then alledgedly went on to sell the items using auction sites in exchange for Japanese Yen. The auctioned items sold from anywhere between 2,300 to 8,000 yen; after the deal the characters would meet up in-game to receive their purchase and finalize the transaction.

NC Japan, who runs Lineage II, explains that the bot hack is a normal character who goes around player killing, or PKing, and then stealing their items. The PKed characters are then unable to play since they have no more items. Police have stated that they are continuing to investigate the hacks origins, Japan or China, and also if the exchange student was working alone.
