Need help with SkinStudio validation error

Cannot focus a disabled or invisible window.

I added some "sounds" to an existing WB skin I have and when I clicked on "Save", I got a message saying that there were some critical errors that needed fixing, etc.... and would I like SkinStudio to do that for me. I clicked, "Yes" and it did it's thing, but then I got another error message which said: "Cannot focus a disabled or invisible window." Since I am barely familiar with SkinStudio, could someone tell me what this means and how I go about resolving the problem?

THANKS

If you click on the validation tab, it'll list any errors or erronious code in the skin, and you'll be able to see there what's causing problems.

Okay... I must be totally blind. I've mouseovered every icon, checked every single item in the Menubar menus, etc., but I cannot find the "Validation" tab anywhere. Where do I find that. geesh!

THANKS! (especially for your patience )

I get that message often just making a compact menu..when i get that message..i've always answered " No " and just continued on and everything was fine..as far as what changes i did.

Actualy, I stand corrected, it's the 'analyze' tab, not validation after all. That one is the one you're after.

The Analyze function will identify no-longer-supported-&-ignored features or settings in addition to so-called Critical errors. SkinStudio won't let the skin be saved until the Critical errors are fixed but will let you save with any of the other types of "errors." I've never seen the error message "Cannot focus a disabled or invisible window" before so I'm not sure of its meaning.

Okay.... here's how my progress has gone thus far. I did find the "Analyze" utility under "Tools/Show analyzer". But to actually see it, I either had to rollup the main SkinStudio window or minimize it when the SkinStudio main window was maximized. (very strange?). I discovered that by double-clicking any of the critical errors I was taken back to the main window to the item that needed correction. A couple were able to be fixed. As for the others, I deleted them.

They were mostly as Daiwa said, "no longer supported & ignored features, etc.". After that, I was able to save the modifications without error messages and thus far nothing seems to be adversely affected. From this little experience, my appreciation for those who create skins has increased all the more.

Thanks to all who took the time and interest in offering help and/or comments. I really appreciate it.

I like when others ask questions and I get to learn new things too. This was always one of those things in SS that Im not sure what to do at times. So far , just saying " no " has worked....next time I will try to " analyze" and see if I can follow through..

Odd - that's under the View menu in SKS here. And it just appears as a tab in the pane where the Skin Preview is shown - click on the Analyze tab & it runs the Analyzer & displays right there in that pane.

Glad you were able to fix it up, in any event.

Yep, that's very odd concerning the "Analyze" window/tab. As I mentioned before, I cannot find this elusive "tab" anywhere in the main SKS window after clicking on "View/Show analyzer". The Analyzer itself is behind SKS, which as I said before, unless I do a "rollup" or "restore" of the main window, I can't see it. Can you be more specific as to where this "tab" is exactly? and give a description of it? Perhaps it's my senility that is preventing me from seeing it? OR perhaps it isn't included in my version: 4.59 Build 1069?

I'll try posting an image here & see if that helps.

Had a feeling that would happen - Do local URL's not work for image links? As in "C:\...\image.jpg"?

Well, that didn't work, either.

Is there a way to exchange e-mail addresses without making them public here? Then we could send each other screenshots.... just an idea.

I'm working on getting the image function working. Bear with me.

OK, finally solved the puzzle.

Anyway, you can see the tab now.

Phew.

Even when installing build 4.60 or what it was called with SD central registered and skin studio 4.60 as well, it did not show 4.60 at all, but still 4.59. Comparative mess with WB 4.60. Which is why this sunday (german system time) I reinstalled both successfully now including the upgrade move by first saving skin directories elsewhere, then completely deinstalling both programs 4.59 versions with SD central, restarting separately after each de- and re-install (first WB, then skin studio). Now all programs work rather well and do show 4.60 validation.

Only limit and shame is my current GPU, RAM and CPU. So at least at startup I don“t load all Stardock tools at once in my freaky settings, otherwise... SOB

Daiwa,

Thanks for taking the time and trouble to provide the screenshot. NOW I know what you mean. However, the "Analyze" tab doesn't appear for me. I can get the "Templates" tab to appear when I click on that item in the "View" menu, so that works. But the Analyze tab doesn't. It's not overly important, although I really dislike things when they don't work as they are intended. I suppose I could completely uninstall SKS, reinstall it via SD and then update it to see if that resolves the problem.

Maybe a fresh install is needed. I have 4 rigs with SKS on them and they all show the Analyze tab. If I remember correctly, the tab didn't show up until the first time a performed a validation, though, and it has remained there through a bunch of updates.

At least you can get to it through the menu, but why it *hides behind* the window I don't know.

Cheers & good luck,
Daiwa

Well, uninstalled SKS and installed it again via Stardock Central and it's the same old story. Probably at this point, the only logical recourse is to send off an e-mail to Stardock support.

I should have thought of this sooner, but do you have SKS Standard or Pro? Sorry you're having so much trouble.

Open it from menu, size SkinStudio so can get at analyzer then click and drag it to where it should be, this has worked for me when it decides to wander.
