Windows ME

Hi guys!
First of all I would like to say hi to everyone, since I just joined in. Cool stuff guys, very impressive!! I hope this is the right place to post this quesiton I have, my appologies if it isn't. I have a laptop that has windows ME on it. I've tried to download windowblinds on it, but it fails to install it giving me the message that its unable to install it b/c it needs the version 4.2 to install it. Does anyone know how i can atleast install it on my laptop so that i can start to customize my desktop like people have here...
I also looked at desktopX... but apparently that doens't install either... help..
thanks alot!

I'm not 100% certain, but I think you might need WindowBlinds 3 if you have ME. Not sure if the latest versions support anything older than XP. Can't you install XP on your laptop?

thanks guys for your speedy responses... See, I'm not too high tech (!!) But where would I get windowblinds 3 from? The latest versions are readily available.
And how hard would it be to install XP myself? Please let me know.
Thanks alot once again,
enjoy your evening.

Buy the upgrade CD.

Boot into ME.

Pop the CD in the drive.

Hit the install button.

XP isn't necessarily 'difficult' to install...however if you are 'not' tech-savy and are not comfortable about changing OS I'd suggest NOT doing it yourself....as problems 'may' arise outside of your capacity to resolve.

Ignoring Meowy....an older ver of Windowblinds WILL work OK in ME....just need to hunt down a link....

/me goes look.....

I would not suggest doing the ME to XP upgrade. That rarely ends well.
Buy a copy of XP (you can get some pretty good deals on OEM versions) save all your important files, pics, etc...to CD or external drive, reformat and install XP.

WinME is the bastard step-child of the Windows family, the genetic throw-back that got the family name, but none of the good genes.
My dad fought with an ME machine as it just got flakier and and became nothing but one problem after another.
That machine now runs XP Pro and keeps the kids off my PC.
You could hold out for Windows Vista, but that's still looking like it's at least a year off.
If you switch to XP you'll be amazed how many more applications will work on your PC.

Before you spend the money make sure your ME machine meets the minmum requirements to run XP. Then if your not comfortable doing a reformat and install, get someone who is to do it for you.

I totally agree. Even if it goes well, your system will be so bogged down you will want to go back to ME.

Funny how I never had a problem with ME...

Yeah, cause you're using Xandros.

I'd agree to upgrade to XP, it's just odd to me how bad people say it is. I've been using it on my Dell machine (bought ME in early 2001), and...because the comp is never connected to the network, it's NEVER had an update, but strangely enough I've NEVER EVER ONCE had an error of ANY kind. It boots fast, opens apps faster than XP (well...apps that were made for ME, XP apps are indeed slower, but then again I use Grapher 3, Lotus, and WordPerfect 8, so it's no problem).
But for this rapidly changing world out there, I'd get XP, ME does what I need it to, and it does it very well, and hopefully always will, but yeah, someday if my use of that machine changes drastically, I'm switching to XP/Vista/whatever comes after that

Insatlling XP is gonna be a task and yes, like someone said i'd probably need someone to help me w/ that.
I'll see what i can find... thanks again...

if you buy windowblinds, you should be able to run it.
