Bloomberg Japan has word that Square-Enix has offered to pay as much as 67 billion yen ($610 million) to buy game maker Taito, creators of Space Invaders. Square-Enix is offering a 12 percent premium over Taito's current stock price for all the shares including the 36 percent owned by Kyocera Corporation. The offer comes as another try by Square-Enix to lower production costs and diversify their product line-up, the same reasons given for the merger of SquareSoft and Enix back in 2003.
