Another research study has been conducted to determine the influence of violent games on children. Jessica Nicoll, BA, and Kevin M. Kieffer, PhD, of Saint Leo University presented their findings in the last day of the American Psychological Association in Washington DC which said that kids exposed to violent games had an increased aggressive behavior in the short and long term.
Nicoll and Kieffer didn't actually perform any studies of their own, but instead analyzed numerous other ones including one that showed kids more aggressive immediately after playing and another saying that eighth and ninth graders who played violent games had their teachers claim that they were more hostile than others, were more likely to be involved in fights, and didn't perform as well on academic tasks.
The researchers hope that now that they found a link people can move on to trying to figure out what drives the violent people to become that way or act out. Said Kieffer, "We need to look at the personality correlates of the people who play these violent games, who are most attracted to them, or who don't just play them for pleasure."
