Station Exchange, Sony Online Entertainment's official MMORPG auction service, has made more than $180,000 in its first month of operation according to Gamesindustry. The service, which allows players to buy characters, currency and items using real world money has been marked to be a huge success, with the average participant spending $70.

The service does not come free though, SOE takes a ten percent commission for each sale, a $1 listing fee for currency and items and a $10 fee for characters. These cuts for Sony lead to the service being slammed by Mythic Entertainment CEO Mark Jacobs who believes the system may increase fraud, tax problems and other legal issues. SOE on the other hand created the system hoping to reduce the load on its customer service, which was being flooded by players getting ripped off by other non-official dealers.
