Strange Problem

hi, ive been using windowblinds for a while now without a single problem, its been great, however i recently formatted my pc and did a fresh install of windows, now usually this wouldnt be a problem, i would install windowblinds, select my skin and everything would be fine. This time however when i select and apply a skin, it doesnt properly skin everything unless i restart, it makes my computer slow and choppy, and if i try to use the recycle bin windows explorer crashes. Ive had windowblinds so long i cant live without it.

any helps most appreciated.
cheers

Sounds like it may be something other than WindowBlinds, or a corrupt install of WindowBlinds.

I would unload WB > uninstall WB > reboot > remove the WindowBlinds sub-directory (usually in "C:\Program Files\Stardock\Object Desktop" folder) > make sure all programs are unloaded and then reinstall WindowBlinds > reboot > test using say Blackcomb skin which is a basic skin, and will not slow your computer down.

If the problem persists, and you are running WindowBlinds under either Windows XP or 2000 - then I think you are looking at either a background process creating an issue, or a video driver issue.

Note - if you are not using Stardock Central to install WB, and you have an eligible version of WB, you might want to go the Stardock Central download page Link and enter your e-mail to receive the program. This will allow you to install the most recent version (not installing an alpha/beta version would be recommended at this time).

You might leave some more information indicating your OS, WB version, and what skin(s) you have seen this issue with.

Yes I agree with Corky, did you load the newest Graphics-drivers after the reformat? Also, it might not be the cause of your problem, but it is actually very easy to forget to load the all-important motherboard drivers (IDE and AGP drivers).

Without them your whole system will be highly unstable and slow as a half-dead slug.

ive found the problem, through a lengthy process of installing and uninstalling ive discovered its the newest version of kerio personal firewall (4.2.0). It appears to conflict with windowblinds causing a windows explorer error.

guess ill have to find another firewall.

cheers for your input anyway guys.
