Look at all the ATI people complaining about AOE3.

nVidia: Better features. People with R400 are starting to feel the lack of SM3.0 and 16 bit FP plending for HDR. And now it seems that ATis answer to G70 will come more than a quarter after nVidias release.

All reviews I have seen currently rate the 6800GT chipset above the Radeon 850 series chipsets.

The nVidia 7800 is fairly new, so I don't think all reports are in yet.

I personally could not afford to spend the kind of money it would take for any of these, and went with the ATI X700 Pro 256 MB AGP adapter - and am really happy with it for both 2D and 3D.

The cost was right at $199, and I am not a gamer (or over-clocker) - so no real pushing the limit other than programs like Painter IX, Poser 5, and Bryce 5.5 - which are all RAM intensive and also work much better with higher end video support features.

Well, I've not used an ATI card in quite a long time as I'm an nVidia fan through and through..

I currently have the Leadtek WinFast A400GT TDH (GeForce 6800 GT).. Quite a long product name there.

But since I haven't upgraded my computer in around 2 years I just yesterday bit the bullet so to speak and bought this:

In my laptop I got nVidia GeForce FX5200 Go 64mb 4X AGP...

nVidia still has the best mobile GPU though. The GeForce Go 6800 ultra. But below this i agree that ATi rules the laptops.

If we learned anything from the original Radeon, ATI can overcome what nVidia puts out. Their newest chipset (R520, iirc) is supposed to be blazingly fast. Also in ATI's near future, is Crossfire, their version of SLI, which from what I've read about it, is supposed to simply DOUBLE whatever your performance is. So if you get 13,000 on 3DMark, with a second ATI card, you will get 26,000. Whether or not this is all true is yet to be seen...but I'm betting ATI blows away nVidia with their next line of cards. As of right now though, I'll admit...the 7800 series is easily top dog.

I've found ATI to be far superior to nVidia over the computers I've had.
In my current desktop I have a Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro or something (128Mb) and in my iBook, I have an ATI Mobility Radeon.

Well, we must remember that nVidia was a bit surprised that ATi came up with a good design (the R300 and R400 are the same thing, just tweaked). ATi bought the basis for R300 from ArtX (ATi has yet to release a competitive product that they developed in house). R520 is supposed to be 'new', so it will be exciting to see what they come up with. But as a result of the surprise that was R300, many people think that ATi can always top nVidia, that it is simply a law of nature.

And on a side note: R520 SOULD be better than G70, since it is coming more than one quarter later, which is quite a long time in this business. And many reports suggest that the R520 part that will be able to beat the 7800GTX will be a new PE (phantom edition), meaning that consumers will have to wait for several months before they can actually buy them.

It's always a cat and mouse game. After ATI comes out with bigger and badder, Nvidia will follow up with something else that beats ATI.

I lost my taste for ATI after purchasing a tuner card which clearly said it would work on XP and failed to deliver. ATI would offer no support. Therefore, I choose to not support ATI by purchasing their products any longer.

My ATI has always worked great for me. My friends with nVidia cards always seem to have to find new drivers whenever they get a new game.

I'm on my third Radeon (first was a 7500, then 9200SE, now 9600 AIW) and still see the cards as great workhorses. I don't have major problems when I come across a 'made for nVidia' game, but the whole idea that you can't get 100% compatibility without buying a card from each manufacturer kinda irks me. What is this, the 90s era browser wars?

They bounce back and forth all the time, its not a permanent thing, just which is better at the given moment IMO.
The problem for most people is which is best for $x?

i like nVidia - i currently have BFG Geforce 6200 OC 256mb (agp) - and i love how it works. i like it better than ATI (which i used too so i dunno - personal preference)

Going to stick with Nvidia I guess since I'm still AGP & have an Nforce2 chipset on my MB - I've heard & read alot of good things about ATI however....wish i could have BOTH cards on one system! 5 STARS for both companies!!

I have always used ATI and have never had a problem running a game. I think both companies make great video cards, but I think it all comes down to personal preferences.

if you are going to play lots of games or any 3d application find a card that can be overclocked so you can use the overclocking progams to get best results!

ive got a xfx 6600gt and i can play fear on almost full settings at the highest res and i get 40 fps average and thats saying alot couse f.e.a.r. is a hard ass game on botjh my cpu and graphics card. the xfx 6600 gt agp is a beast when overclocking i got it to 590 core and 1200 mem!!!

i have an ati 9200 all-in-wonder now and i don't think its as good as my old Nvidia something440something card and may end up going back. the ATI is a 128 and the Nvidia is a 64 and the ATI lags in normal use.
