Ditto on where to unzip and install sd-toon-xp_dxpacks etc. Also, I purchased Toox XP and re-downloaded it but the piece at the top -- a clock, etc. -- doesn't load at all. Are these conflicting versions of Toon XP?

For the Object Desktop 2005 CD, just put it into the CD drive and it should autoplay and present you with an installation panel offering to install Object Desktop, as well as some other added content.

Install Object Desktop > reboot computer > go to Start\All Programs and locate Stardock Central program icon (either in the new Object Desktop folder, or in a new Stardock folder) > click to start Stardock Central > follow prompts to log onto server and update Stardock Central if offered.

I wrote a mini tutorial outlining the installation procedures which can be found here Link

I suggest following along with the tutorial to perform the registering of products, and selecting the settings indicated via the tools menu to get you started using the official released versions.

Note - do not update any programs other than Stardock Central until after you have made your setting selections to avoid installing an alpha/beta version of the programs (better to start with the official released versions, before playing around with the testing versions).

Stardock Central is the central hub for downloading and installing Object Desktop updates, as well as the main installer for the Object Desktop network version (for those who did not purchase a CD).

After making your Tools>Settings selections and registering your products, you can download any updates offered.

Once the programs are installed, you can start them via the Start>All Programs>Object Desktop folder.

I would suggest trying out the WindowBlinds and IconPackager programs to start, then perhaps throw in a couple of widgets to dress up your desktop.

There are a number of pre-packaged skins and themes that install with the programs, as well as the extra CD content, and of course once you register Object Desktop - you will have unlimited download access during the annual subscription period.

FYI - Object Desktop is a subscription based software, which includes the first year free, as well as the right to keep all content downloaded during that year (and of course the most current software versions downloaded and installed during that year).

This should get you started, and if you click my name, you will be taken to may page that has some mini tutorial links that may be helpful.

Not sure on the toon-xp item, though it should be located somewhere in the Start>All Programs menu after installing.

Feel free to post again with any questions, and someone is always happy to help.

The dxpacks are for DesktopX, so you will need the DesktopX program installed to use those.

If you click my name, you will see a mini tutorial called "Downloading Content from WinCustomize" and "Backing-up Skins and Themes".

If you read both of those (easy reading), you should understand more about the file types and file structure.

For now, any file with ".dxpack" extension will be placed in the Objects folder found in DesktopX sub-directory, any ".desktop" or ".dxtheme" file will be placed in the Themes folder found in DesktopX sub-directory.

In many cases, an easier way than extracting to the correct location is to extract the files to the download location, and then double-click the file to install.

Wallpapers can go to "C:\WINDOWS\Web\Wallpapers" folder.
