Losing money late in GAME

OK I asked the question before playing GC the more you build the more your expenses. Fine but I get to a point where no mater how high I crank up the taxes or turn down expense spending "WHICH ALL GOVERMENTS SEEM GOOD AT" I lose money every turn.

I have no leases I do not beleive in borrowing money.

How can I turn my expenses around ?

The key thing IMO is to make as much moral improvements and research moral stuff so you can take a higher tax without getting unhappy people. Unhappy people give you very little money even tho the tax-slider is set to a high value. So keep an eye on the morale-status.

Other things to go for is the economic improvements (of course) and to check which stuff (imps and ships) that has a high maintenence cost. Alot of those may bring any economy down.

So..when you have a negative cash-flow, check the morale-status and the maintenence numbers.

Sure there are some more tweaking left to do, but I seldom get in trouble with the economics. Altho I usually go for the populist party to get an extra morale bonus.

The problem is have is the economy sliders do not work ?
What do I care at this point if my civilization is happy
I increase the TAX bar, decrease the spending bar and I am still spending more than I am receiving.

I buy and work on all the improvements I can get early in the game when it is possible to take in more than I spend.

I can not afford any moral or economic improvements I am heavily into the red.

I think the trouble exists when because of wars some trade routes were distoryed but this also can not be right. No economy that ever existed depends so mach on trading. Take World Economies for example say war makes trade with Japan imposible I am sure the US would be hurt but it would not utterly distroy the US economy.

Thanks for the Populist Party ?
Any more suggestions to win I can try?

I get 10 advantage points when I start how should I use them ?

The Alien Civilization should I set them all to friendly ?

Is a Smaller MAP game easier to win ?

How about suggestions on the Technoligies to work on first ?

Social Spending I on things like soil improvement, entertainment centre, university, planetary defense, hopefully this point I can begin with Galatic Entertainment Centre, Fusion Plant etc. Also I would start building thing likes Eyes of the Universe. The game does not like me building everything can I be doing something wrong ?

Well, it works like this:
If you have a happy population you can tax them so you get more money. If they are unhappy and you tax them the same you'll get less. They'll simply refuse to pay when they are unhappy - no matter what you put the slider to. Try to keep the morale-rating above 40 and you'll be able to keep a decent tax-ratio. Experiment with the slider and never go below 40 in morale. That's what I do anyway, perhaps someone have a different view - I dont know.

The spending bar affect how much are put into the cash-pile or into spending. If you want to put up a big pile of money, at the loss of spending them on imps/ships/techs.

"I buy and work on all the improvements I can get early in the game when it is possible to take in more than I spend."

If things goes bad moneywise, you might want to reconsider and spend more on morale and economic improvements and less on defence imps and others.

You should be able to get the economics balanced even withut the trade income, altho it's much easier with that extra cash :)

What do you find as a good Tax rate and Spend rate to start with.

When you are in a Federation what do you use.

I thought that you always have to build military programs and social programs.

Having a weak military everybody in the Galaxy will be wiping you out but not building social program makes for unhappy citizens as well.

Can you help me out with your option on the following ?

I get 10 advantage points when I start how should I use them ?

The Alien Civilization should I set them all to friendly ?

I always start with 100% spent rate and set the tax rate to such that my balance is around 0 (~35-45% tax rate). Then when I start to go negative, I first drop the spect rate, but if I get to positive I'll lower the tax rate (usually in mid game I have tax rate of 25-35% and spent rate of 60-90%, if I'm not in major wars).

I usually build first the Fusion Power Plant, then soil enchament, then depending on morale of the planet either Entertainment Centre or something else.

Sorry guys and gals. I think Technician is running into a bug. At about mid game I had my spending set to balance my tax rate and it was working fine, but suddenly my treasury started plunging, even though the spending rate was a few (2-5) BC less than the total income. Right now I have to set my spending rate to $55bc less than my total revenue income to avoid bankrupcy.

I am sending a saved game to Cari. I hope she can find out where the extra outgo is from, but here is what I suspect. I have set my "espionage" at one percent per race, which just about accounts for the unexposed spending, but the espionage spending does not show up on my "economics" screen.

Cheers,
Jack

I think I have a good idea what is happening. I can not find any indication of the spending on destabilisation or espionage in the economics screen and the difference in what the economics screen shows and what accually gets spent is about the amount I have set for these. I think these amounts should show up in the "GIA"(?) field on the economics screen and that currently shows 0 when it should show about $50 - $60 bc.

Cheers,
Jack
