IconX loads and then disappears

Hi,
For some reason my IconX has decided not to load. It used to load at startup but now i does not and when I start it manually I it loads for 1 second and then it unloads.

The problem is that I cannot figure out what has changed on my machine since the problem started yesterday. Anyone seen this? I have seen postings in the forums about IconPackager doing the same thing but not IconX.

Do you run DesktopX at the same time?
If so, that cancels out the iconx run at startup.
you can create a shortcut to iconx in the startup folder.

No I don't, just ObjectDockPlus and Windowblinds.

Do you have smart start up enabled (if you have SDC)?
The only issue I've seen here for IconX not starting had to do with DesktopX. It even had the load, then unload issue.

In configure IconX you have run at startup checked I'm guessing.
Have you updated it recently? What version do you have?

If you go into the startup folder and right click and add a shortcut to it, it will run on startup.

I have smartstart up enabled (I have know idea what it does thought) and I have SDC.

I had "run at startup" checked in IconX, yes. Now I cannot get to it because it does not load.

I have version 1.10.007 (Aug 5). Funny thing though. I just recently renewed my OD subscription fo another year and since then I haven't been notified of even one update to any of the applications in OD. Before there seemed to be a regular update or beta update every other day or so.

Even if something happened to the IconX startup, shouldn't it start when I manually start it even so?

Try clearing the IconX cache by deleting the IconX cache folder.

See my tutorial on clearing the cache procedure here Link

After clearing the cache > reboot computer > start IconX manually > create a shortcut to IconX in your startup folder as recommended by Bichur.

I hope this helps.

Unfortunately that did not help. Same as before, when starting manually it loads for a short time and the unloads. I getting annoyed now...
I haven't had any problems with SDC or any of it's applications until a few months ago when I had the "iprepair.dll" issue and now this. Totally inexplicable issues that annoys the h-ll out of me. How can an application just start and the end for seemingly no reason. I am at a loss...

I haven't really seen an update in a while either - maybe - no short term - can't tell.

Not at home now, later I'll check my SDC and see what's there.

I just uninstalled and re-installed IconX. No change. The problem persists.

Iprepair I did what this link suggest

hmmm. I haven't used icons in a month or so.
Not at home now, but now I'm real curious so I'll definitely be checking later tonight. The unregistering of the dll worked for me back in July.

Are you running any widgets that cause DX to load in the tray?

Maybe Corky O will be back with something else to try.

I'll post again after I get home tonite and try iconx out.

Per Bohlin,

Did you see any DesktopX cache folders during the clearing IconX cache, and did you delete that as well?

If not, I would suggest trying to do so.

The fact that IconX will not start manually after restart suggests that DesktopX is somehow loading, or holding onto something in IconX.

I am not a coder, and do not know why the integration of IconX and DesktopX is set up the way it is.

If you can get IconX to start manually, you might try selecting the run at startup option, and then create and save the theme > reboot to verify functionality.

If none of these work, the only other path that I would suggest trying is the following:

- unload all customization programs

- restore Windows to the default theme including all icons (if you are running Windows XP, use Display Properties > Themes tab > select Windows XP in theme list > click Apply)

- delete all cache folders inside the Stardock cache folder > uninstall both IconX and DesktopX via SDC

- reboot > delete any DesktopX and IconX folders found in "C:\Program Files\Stardock\Object Desktop" folder

- reinstall DesktopX and IconX (non-beta versions)

- test IconX first, before using DesktopX.

Note - you will want to save any files that are not included in the IconX and DesktopX program installations before uninstalling and deleting the sub-directories.

Note #2 - the MCP Smart Startup option in SDC is designed to start Stardock products quickly and efficiently. It is different than the MCP notification area support option which is designed to support Stardock software functions that involve the notification area (A.K.A. - the System Tray). The MCP Smart Startup may or may not have any effect on the IconX program, so you could try running IconX with it disabled to test.

Sorry I don't have anything better to offer at this time.

okay - loaded iconx, set it to run, restarted = came up no prob
loaded a widget, set it to run, restarted = no problem

I've only had 2 problems with IconX not running at startup by checking the tab.
1)desktopx was running at startup
2)I had 'show icons' unchecked on the desktop.

I'm also running ver 1.10.007
Not too many updates as of late on SDC

I'm throwing craps here.
Maybe roll back to an earlier then redownload and install again?
