Free attack moves

In the OS/2 version each attack was counted as one move.
Now it's free.
Is this intended?

In my opinion, this lessens the value of speed. I mean, if your ship has 10 moves, you can (in OS/2) attack 10 ships at most (all surrounding you ;) ). Now with 1 move you can attack an unlimited number of surrounding ships.
The old way had a meaning so that one powerfull ship could not wipe a sector full of minor warships or transports in one turn.

What's best? :notsure:

Your move...

If I understand correctly, it's going to be changed so that a ship can only attack once per turn. How, exactly, that's going to be done in unknown.

I suppose it could go back to one move or one attack per movement point...

I prefer the idea of one attack equals one movement point. This will stop powerful ships being completely blocked by a replenishable swarm of scouts, while allowing the swarm of scouts to at least delay the battleship.

I agree a powerfull battleship should always be limited by its movement points. If you have 10 movement points you should be able to take out 10 ships.

Brad, your silence is making a lot of noise.
What do you say?
Are you going to change it?

I was happy with the way it was in the OS/2 version--one movement point per shot if I remember.

In general, I agree, one movement point one shot. However, if the ship no longer requires movement to target, especially when there is a stack of ships, it seems obvious to me that firing upon a ship should not take a full turn and than without movement, multiple shots should be available.

If you remember the way Brad described a ship battle you can see that, in a way, a ship pair (attacking and defending) are taking multiple attack/defend turns. Here is what I remember (it may not be quite accurate, but I think it is close) - The attacking ship gets a roll of the dice (figuratively speaking) for amount of attack amount and the defending ship gets a roll for defense amount. The attacker's roll is modified by its attack strength and the defender's roll is modified by its defense strength. Then the attack results is subtracted from the defense results and if any is left it is subtracted from the defender's hit points. Then the roles are reversed - the defender attacks (new roll modified by the defender's attack strength) and the attacker defends (new roll modified by the attacker's defense strength) and the remaining attack points, if any, are subtracted from the attacker's hit points. Roles are switched back to the original roles and the whole thing is repeated until one of the ships (sometimes both of them) is destroyed.

It'll be changed so that an attack takes up a movement point. But you will be allowed to make multiple attacks per turn.
