Square-Enix announced today that it will be acquiring rival game maker Taito in a friendly takeover. Square-Enix originally announced their intentions last month when they planned on buying 67 percent of Taito's stock over the course of a month. If Taito's shareholders weren't willing to give up their shares for a 12 percent premium then Square-Enix said it would seek other methods of a takeover.
After fighting of numerous demonic spawns of Satan, Square-Enix was able to capture over 93 percent of Taito's stock, confirming the acquisition and making Taito a wholly owned subsidiary. Reports indicate that the names will stay separate as the company's evaluate the impact of the acquisition.
