EU Nintendo Head Scares Me
Scary Comparisions to Music Industry

I was looking over a new interview that Gamesindustry.biz managed to get with Nintendo's Head of European Developer Business Mark Hein and his following comments really made me cringe:
GamesIndustry.biz: Is the problem just that it's hard to make a game for someone other than yourself, then?
Mark Hein: Yes, but that's how the music industry works, for example. Apart from the independent groups, there's a lot of factory made music and they try to investigate who the target group is, what does the market want, and then try to design music for the mass market. I rarely see this in videogames. It's very much developer driven, it's not marketing driven.
No personally this kind of 'factory music' is why I think music has become crappier and crappier as I have grown up. I would much rather try and relate to various bands with various sounding songs than something that was just pumped out and marketed to a specific demograph. Then again this may also be the reason for the rise of Indie bands.
I only hope that this isn't applied to the gaming industry and instead they continue trying innovation and news ideas, even though its risky.
