There are so many ships not yet in this version that were in the OS/2 version, including the Excaliber and a phantom like ship (I forgot its name) that you could build when you developed cloaking. We have seen only a few war ships added since the beginning of the Alpha, the Dreadnaught, the Star Hawk, the Battle Cruiser, and the Battle Axe (did I miss any?). It takes the Art department time to develop these ships for the game, and they also have a lot of panels to create that are not yet in the game. I suspect the emphasis is going to be on getting the feature dependent art work done before concentrating on ships, since it is more important to get the features in and tested and the ships will require very little testing.

Gherardo,

Isn't the Avatar above the Dreadnaught?

I implemented my own version of the Excalibur but my memory of the OS/2 version is pretty dim so the only things I really remember are that it was cheap to maintain, fast and deadly.

Anyone still have the OS/2 game running who can give me the exact cost, hit-points, attack, defence, maintenance, etc.

I play the OS/2 version all the time and you are right the Excalibut is the ultimate battleship it is cheap to maintain "costs about the same a a Battleship", fast and deadly. The Excalibur is a higher level ship than the Avatar.

The Avatar is costly and slow to build, and slow in movement. But it does cause the other races to reconsider
any hostile intent if you have a few. The Excaliber should be the next one added.

The ship was a Stealth Crusier.

Jack, correct.

I thought the Excalibur was expensive... it was very powerful though... it was the Battle Star, I think, that was cheap, powerful and fast...

The Battle Star was cheaper, I believe that both were about the same speed. Either way, the firepower was a great thing to have in many games. Game in handy in the last few turns.

I think the Excalibur was less expensive than the Avatar and the Battle Star was dirt cheep. Of course, but the time I got to where I could build the Battle Star I was well on my way to winning anyway. (If I wasn't winning I never got to where I could build the Battle Star.)

Did have times when playing GC Gold that I had one or two other races at the same stage in developments as myself, in some cases barely ahead of me. So to move forward I needed the best to take from the best. That is why stealing Techs can also help late in the game if your back is to the wall!
