Lapses

This technically isn't a poem as it was a song first, but I like it just the same. I left it in song format.

Lapses
1) Where have we been?
Who, what, where, when.
How does the story go,
And how the hell do you know?
See as time passes,
My memory lapses.
And I forget why…Why we’d fight, on these nights, just to see who’s wrong or right.
2) And now I’m lookin’ at,
Wantin’ it all back.
Begging to pick and choose,
When I’m begging for you.
I can see it now for what it is,
A direct hit or near miss…to be much more than this, just to sort through this, just ignore this…situation.
Chorus: And When I feel this weight on my shoulders, I can feel myself getting older.
And when I feel this weight on my shoulders…I’m getting over you.
3) My hesitation,
My second guesses.
Expensive phone bills,
And remnant bedroom messes.
As I pick up each piece,
Or pick myself up at the very least…I’ll retreat, I’ve been beat, and I’ll walk away in defeat.
4) But that won’t bring you home,
I’ll still be here.
You won’t calm my nerves,
And magically reappear.
I know I have some,
But the damage has been done…we lost, no one won, so which direction should I run.
Chorus: And When I feel this weight on my shoulders, I can feel myself getting older.
And when I feel this weight on my shoulders…I’m getting over you.
5) As time passes,
My memory lapses.
And I forget why,
Why I used to be.
Anything more than this,
And much more than I wish.
I wish I was the one,
At least once more.
