gigantic has major issues...

I think these are already known but:

1) Ships on Autopilot don't move every turn like they should
2) Some ships will not move by selecting them and clicking on the map. You have to move them manually. It hits different ships each turn.
3) The game crashes much more frequently than the smaller maps, exits to desktop
4) I finally gave up and made everyone an ally, scored over 1,100,000 and the game crashed while trying to submit. This isn't the first time I've seen it do this while submitting either.
5) the Auto-Save doesn't appear to save at any regular interval. I reloaded the game and was so far back in time it was depressing.
6) I also saved the game prior to making everyone allies and yet when I went back in the game was prior to me wiping one of the reaces off of my shoes :-)

Cheers,

5). The game is supposed to autosave on January of each year. Can you take another look and see if it is? Also, I thiink someone at SD said they were going to make the autosave interval selectable.

1) & 2) : Those ship-movement problems have been fixed by Admiral CariElf in an internal build, beyond Beta 1Z. Future testing, starting with Beta 2, will show if the ship-movement mechanics have become 100% reliable.

Sounds great on the ship movement. Hope it works. HAving same problem in Gigantic Galaxy. Now if they would add the Enormous Galaxy as in GC OS/2!

That appears to already be the case, you just have to manually edit the prefs.ini file right now. The default, last I looked at it, was every 14 months.

I've not had the problems with the autosave but when I do play gigantic maps and have about 10 colonies thats when I seem to crash back to my desktop.

My machine is the following
Win2k
P4 1.8 ghz
512mb ram
nvidia Gforce 2 mx
30 gig hdd 7200 rpm
and I've made sure that the game is fully patched.

I've never yet managed to finish a galatic map game. At some point it will crash. Haven't managed to get a repeatable crash yet though, just random crashes. Only on gigantic galaxy though.

We did have a problem with the leases not being deleted properly, and that was eating memory, so that could be the cause of the crashes. You should find the next build to be more stable, regardless. I've been playing on large lately, but I'll try a gigantic game today.

In re: Lieutenant Dominic Breeze

Concerning being unable to submit his scores...

Do you have anti-virus or a Firewall?

I had to tell Norton's to unequivocly allow GC acces tot he net and then it worked quite well.

Just a thought and suggestion
