Beta 2 - Game sound still failing

At times, for no apparent reason all game sound will stop, effects, music, everything. If I save, exit the game, restart GalCiv and reload the game everything is fine.

What's your sound card setup? What OS?

ditto for me, I had just saved the game manually for the first time and all the effects vanished. I have a Sound Blaster Live Value on Win98.

This happens on almost any setup. The sound just randomly dies, with no ill effect to the rest of GalCiv or to other sound devices/players.

I have a "SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio" and have been having this problem for many builds, all the way back into the Alpha. I had to wait until I was sure about the Beta 2 build to be sure, but it is still happening. In my case, it seems to start with just portions of the sound affects failing to play, then progresses to all sounds quiting.

Then a strange thing happened. The research "GNN" came up without the research music, so I sat there waithing for several seconds just to see if it would come up. I gave up on it and pressed the done button and the research music came up briefly in the transition from the research GNN screen to the other completions GNN.

Just as a note, the sound problem appears to have cause my system to crash for the first time.

The research screen came up, the after about 15 seconds the sound died out, and shortly after, the game halted.
