Next ship selection fails.

Next ship selection fails.

I am starting a new thread on this problem because I have now seen this in a situation that eliminates being on autopilot as a factor. What I am seeing is more of a "next ship" selection problem in appearance than the other threads had described. I had 5 ships, the "USS Discovery", two scouts I had built, and two scouts I had discovered (via anomalies). None of them were on autopilot, or ever had been on autopilot. I suddenly reallised that I was seeing only one ship selected each turn, a condition that I think had been going on for a few turns.

I would like to note that the ship list update problem appears to have been corrected, at least in the forms of the problem that I could have detected thus far. I am opening another thread on a specific problem I am seeing with this build, one that is not as serious as the next ship selection problem.

This problem is a sometime thing. That is, sometimes it fails and sometime it works.

The hero or the scout had moves left, and they were on manual?

The Hero and the scout were on manual and had already moved (no moves left).

Cari, I wanted to point out that I send my colony ships to tiles next to a star I wish to colonize, rather than to the tile the star occupies. Hence the ship drops out of autopilot with moves left (in this case) and I move it onto the star during the autopilot phase but under manual control. I think most other players just send their colony ships to the tile occupied by the star, and I think this difference may be significant for this problem. When my colony ship is destroyed it may happen during the autopilot phase, but the ship is accually on manual control, where as the other case is that the colony wagon is distroyed while accually on autopilot.

Doing things your way can cause a one turn delay in colonizing the star. If the ship is set to go directly to the star, it only has to reach the tile next to it to colonize that system. If you ssend it to a tile next to it, you need to have one move left to manually colonize the system. The same applies to transports(and constructors, but there seems to be a bug there at the moment involving this which may change that functioning).

That having been said, I don't see this issue here, so that could be part of the problem. I do occasionally do that with some ships, but those are ones that would usually stay in flight after performing whatever function I had intended, not ones that would be destroyed.

Hmm....it's definitely hard to reproduce. Do you play with End Turn Skips Moves Left on or off? I'm playing with it off, with AutoTurn turned on, so if our settings are different, maybe that is contributing to my having trouble nailing it down.

Cari,
I have end of turn skips moves left OFF. I have noticed, however, that I can push the turn button with ships on manual with moves left and it goes to the next turn. I thought maybe the code for this feature had not been implemented yet. And I have Autoturn OFF as well.

Arturus,
If as you describe it a ship can colonize a star in the same turn that it completes its move points in a tile next to a star set as a destination then I would call that a bug. Perhaps you should verify this somehow, with saved games and such that you can send Cari.

It seems that this is the way it has been working for a while.... I know that it worked that way in 1Y, and I seem to recall that it did in 1E as well. It seems to apply to any ship that is destroyed at it's destination, and happens regularly.

It only refers to ships on Autopilot, but I didn't have a lot of room for a more verbose description. I'll play with autoturn off and see if I can reproduce the situation that way.

Arturus Magi,

I tried comparing a ship on autopilot to a star and a ship on autopilot to a tile next to a star. You are right. The ship whose destination is a star can get an extra move point on its last turn. I used two colony ships with move points of 2 and set them 3 moves from a star. I then set one's destination to a tile next to the star 2 moves away and set the destination of the other ship as the star (3 moves away). The star was colonized by the ship that targeted the star on the same move, in otherwords, it moved three moves. In my mind this is a BUG. I have a save game and all I need to describe the problem to Cari and am sending them to her for further problem determination.
