I have an odd problem

I have a strange problem. I have noticed I can only play the game once. It doesn't matter how I exit the game, either from an error or form exiting via the menu. The next time I play the game it locks up before the opening introduction. The only way I seem to solve this is to unistall than install. I'm playing barebones, no multimedia pack and I'm not using the windowed mode.

I've tried various work arounds but nothing seems to work, 8-( If anybody has any suggestions I'm dying to hear them. I fell in love with the game and I can only play it once... lol.

It's possible that there are three files in the drengin or galciv directory: DartObjects.dll, DartSock.dll and DartWeb.dll. If those files are there, they need to be moved to c:\windows\system32 and registered. You
can do this by clicking on Start->Run and entering these
lines one at a
time:

regsvr32.exe c:\windows\system32\DartObjects.dll
regsvr32.exe c:\windows\system32\DartSock.dll
regsvr32.exe c:\windows\system32\DartWeb.dll

The second thing that caused this was a problem with drivers. Some people only had to upgrade to the latest version of DirectX to fix this problem. Others had to re-install the drivers that they found to be conflicting with our mp3 player.

There were also a few cases where people's systems were having trouble with the bink files, and removing Intro.bik and sf_intro.bik from the galciv directory allowed them to load GalCiv.

Please let me know if this information helps. If the problem persists, please e-mail me your debug.err file from the galciv directory.

I've found that reinstalling DirectX, reboot, and running RegClean works for me. :)

Also, if you changed any of the startup settings, you can try deleting the file galciv\Data\Prefs.ini. I had a problem where the game would lock upon start if I changed anything on the race screen, and that would allow the game to start up.
