Shareholders have approved the GameStop and Electronics Boutique merger, creating the largest games retailer in North America. The new company will operate under the GameStop Corp. name and will control roughly 25 percent of the market, beating out rival giant Wal-mart by a few points.
The merger was officially announced back in April and will see GameStop Corp. running 4,200 stores in the United States alone. GameStop also commented that few to no stores will be closed as a result of the merger, and the names will also remain the same. Analysts see the merger as a good starting point for the firm to begin global expansion, something EB had started when they purchased Spanish retailer Jump.
