You Can't Afford Me.

I Failed An Audition

Acting
(Hardly)
For three
Whole hours

I spat out lines to a
Bored and hungry panel
Waiting to glimpse a star

And waited, frozen, whilst
The professionals sat
and practised in their pairs.

No part
For me.
I cost
Too much.

I'm really beginning to appreciate poetry like this. To the point: no floweriness but still with a strong sense of rhythm. I also think its cool that you have invented your own form of poetry and this one seem to be your best yet.

This is surprisingly insightful. Its the type of little gem that seems to grow on you once you've read it a few times. I love the fact that you've taken the rejection on the chin: "I cost/Too much". V. funny ending!

It's quite refreshing to see that you're not taking the audition too badly. I've seen so many of these audition shows on tv where auditionees think that their whole life is over if they don't get through and its just so dumb. I see this poem as the antidote to all that rubbish! Thanks for writing it.
