Hungry shithead

what is it about being hungry?

I don't get it, why would food be a problem for someone?

isn't it everywhere.

fuck you, if that's what you think. I'm sick of all the know-it-alls
that have all the answers for why we aren't the best and the brightest.

the droids never spend days with the ache of hunger in their bellies
they never filled a jar of water with sugar to kill the pain of emptiness,
they never lock their refrigerator after every meal praying that the
end of the month would come quick,
they never calculate how far a can of Spam will go for a family of
four,
nor do they worry about begging for rides or their children's life expectancy,

but here in the shit of life, where mothers give their blood for another
chance to be free of the crying of hungry babies, the ache of hunger grinds
and leaves the soul bare and the spirit empty of care,

after all, what's another hungry shithead from the bottom of society.

Sorry young man, I truely am not a part of your world. And if you knew me you wouldn't want to be in mine.

It has been a part of my world all my life. I grew up in a project in LA. One of a handful of white families in the vast wasteland of South Central LA. Yeah, everything you've read about the uglies in my poems is real. I couldn't make this shit up. Reality is truly stranger than fiction.

I don't want anyones pity. Fuck that. I want their rage. This isn't about one-up-manship. I have no desire to minimize anyones pain. But there is a collective pain that is endemic and the powers that be have no understanding when they prescribe their cures for the ills of poverty. And I'm no young man, unless you consider fifty young.

the rage isn't bad--but hardly informed.

I'm not sure what you're really angry about. Angry for what they did or for what you didn't do? Abuse of charity is a symptom of greater ills than selling your food stamp card for drugs--although, I hardly think the majority of people fit your example. Adaquate food does not equal adaquate nutrition, nor are all cases allocated equally. A single person on a fixed income of 600.00 recieves 10.00 per month. I work as a social worker here. I know these things first hand as well. But I respect your feelings. It is always hard to see abuse of a system that is intended to help.
