Texas Pirate Convicted AGAIN

Gamesutra has word that the ESA, teamed with the FBI, has taken down another software pirate. Dashiell Ponce de Leon has been convicted – AGAIN – of selling pirated games, his first conviction coming in 2001. The judge took his previous pirating offense into account, giving Ponce de Leon a hefty three years and ten months in prison, and ordered to pay $1.154 million in damages for copyright infringement.

"We are grateful for the work of U.S. law enforcement and prosecutors in bringing this defendant to justice," said Entertainment Software Association Douglas Lowenstein. "Sentences that include significant jail time send a clear message to software pirates that intellectual property theft is a serious crime and that perpetrators will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."
