Editing sounds

Alright, I have these sounds that play whenever I right click for a rolldown menu, and when I select anything from the menu, or click on links, there's another sound that plays. Also, there is a short sound clip that I've set to play whenever I start windows.

My problem is, the "click" sound (or menu command) is too loud, while the "Start Windows" and the menu popup sounds are too soft. So it goes like this: "popup..popup..popup... CLICK!!!!" rinse and repeat. I'm just wondering if there's anyway I can edit the volume of the sounds to be more balanced. Any suggestions?

You sure can do that, I've made a few sound schemes, they are just single wav files so can be edited in any wav editor. Heres a good free one

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ Audacity, its open source, no spyware or anything bad will come with it.

The sounds are stored by default in C:\WINDOWS\Media so just edit them and save them back there.

Easiest way to make sure all sounds are at the same volume level, load up the sound you think is a good volume, look how big the waveform is and use that as a guide for increasing and decreasing other sound files.

To effect sounds, just hit CTRL A to select the entire waveform, go to effects menu and select NORMALISE. Once all are normalised you can repeat the process but use AMPLIFY to tweak the sound to be louder or quieter.
