windowed version?

i last played the game a few months ago and now i am reinstalling. i don't see an option to install the windowed version. has this been scrapped in recent versions?? i really enjoyed being able to play the game directly on my desktop.

please advise, thanks.

See below for instructions to activate windowed mode:


Right click on the galciv icon, click properties and add a w after the target. So it will look something like this: "C:\program files\stardock\galciv\galciv.exe" w

I just tried as well. Flash screen appears, all white and nothing else. Ideas?

change your screen resolution to use 16bit colour.. then it'll work :)

Hmmm, it is already. Is there a screen resolution also required? Current Hich Color (16 bit) 1024 x 768. She no go mate!

IME some video cards just won't support DirectX in windowed mode.

Others need specific settings of resolution or color depth. It's not unusual to require 1280 by 960 as a minimum to support windowed.

Hmm, it worked before 1.05 without 1280 x 960. (Which does not work with my combination of video card, monitor etc.) Any others ideas?

Did you make sure that there's a space between the end quote and the w?
