Issues with Beta 2B

- Researching eye of Universe causes Fog of War to not be lifted. Ships disappear under the Fog rather than the Fog disappearing. You have to save the game, exit and relaunch the game for the proper effects of Eye of Universe to appear

- You can build two starbases on top of each other. Have two constructors arrive at the same point and in the same turn build both into starbases. You get two icons, two bases etc

- Constructors Auto-Pilot doesn't work very well. Constructor docks with any starbase en-route to destination asking if you want to upgrade it, losing move points and interrupting game flow. You have to manually navigate around the first SB and then put back on Auto-Pilot to the correct SB.

- Research announcements are now at least a month behind development of the discovery. i.e. the turn before announcement you can check the research screen and the one you were researching is gone and you can select another item. However the next turn when the announcement appears the Months to discovery hasn't changed on the new item even though a month has gone by.

- In a gigantic map, the yellows (forget its 12:30am for me and I'm in Europe where its 7:30am), never expanded. They had the top right of the map and didn't do anything beyond populating one extra planet with the starting colony ship.

- The yellows don't have any planets yet the 'Planet has become livable Issue' allows you to donate the upgraded planet to them. Is that right? Resurrect the race?

- Four trade routes is not enough! I've played several games to the end, (no connection while in Europe) and the Add 2 Trade routes issue has never come up :-(. The current favorite by a long shot is the Attack points on Transport ships.

- Starbases need more Economy items, shouldn't the Culture Shopping add-on increase the economy as well? I do like the increased effect of the trade ship add-on though. Should SBs repair faster than normal ships? Perhaps an add-on of repair-bots to increase the SB repair rate?

- Transit taxes? If you build a starbase on the other side of the galaxy, whether in your sector or someone elses, shouldn't you collect transit taxes from passing trade ships even if they are going to/from planets you don't control? A bit like trucks pay highway tolls etc in various states in the US.

- Protection of Minor Races? Can there be some way for a good civ to offer a shield of protection around a minor race? i.e. A good civ won't actually take over a minor race but come to an agreement that they can say pay x per month and as far as the other races are concerned any declaration of war agains the minor race is really a declaration of war against you. A bit like the NATO, Italy is a nation (read race) if someone attacks, NATO is obliged to respond.

Regarding the Eyes of the Universe FOW issue: Ctrl-R will refresh the FOW just like restoring from a save. I agree that this _is_ still an issue though.

I've also encountered that games apparent fondness for the "let's arm the transports" UP event.

Auto-pilot path-finding, in general, seems to need some work.

That protection of minor races thing could come up as a UP issue. "To protect the minor races, we agree to declare war on any agressive member of the UP who threatens the security of these races." Or something like that. Anyone who attacks a minor gets a bunch of war declarations from other UP members if this goes through. You could put in a similar issue about Genocide (elimination of last empire's planet through military force).

- Eyes of the Universe bug - I'm going to try forcing the FOW to refresh as soon as it's built.

-stacked starbases should be easy to fix

- I'll adjust the pathfinding.

- Does the research bug happen all the time, or does it only happen after a research anomaly?

- The Arceans probably were limited by the range, and since they can't build starbases yet, they were stuck.

- I've asked Scott about it and he's going to check it out. I suppose if the Arceans had just lost their last planet that turn, they wouldn't have been declared 'dead' yet, so maybe that's why they're still listed as one of the possible beneficiaries.

- Save your games and back them up so that you can submit them later. We'll discuss the feasibility of making sure that the issue hasn't been picked before it comes up, until all the issues have been picked and then it gets reset.

- We still have a lot of content to add for the starbases.

- maybe we could make the transit taxes a UP issue.

- the protection of minor races as a UP issue has also been added to my list of suggestions.

I've noticed two different twists on "the research bug".

1. Happens as described in Dominic Breeze's posting.

2. Happens if you hit a research anomoly that would put you over the number of months remaining to research the technology. What I've seen happen there is The technology is finished and is added to the list of technologies researched and the game then starts researching the technology that is on the top of the available technologies list. No pop-up ever appears.

Perhaps the "trade routes" issue should be allowed to be picked up many times before the reset, and perhaps it should have an absolute maximum, or should never be brought up again if all races have 10 trade routes?

This happens only if you finish research through an anomaly, and research on the next item does progress when you hit the 'Turn' button.

If you some how research more than one tech in a turn, only the last one will appear on the Research Complete screen.

Cari,

Arceans weren't limited by range. They had plants in the same sector and around them they could have gone to. They just never built new colony ships from what i could tell.

the research issue seemed to happen all the time however it could be that at some point i had used an anomoly to move research forward but then finished it normally.

If you are adding more UP issues, beta 3, perhaps UP should meet more than once every 4 years. Agreed some items should be able to come up more often, like trade.

The only thing i eventually found was an Arcean survey shhip floating around the galaxy which didn't make sense coz they had no planets so no range but maybe this is how they could still be a beneficiary.

-Talking of which, it would help politics big time, if you could see where the new planet was in the solar system before voting on who should have it. You should gain favor by gifting the planet to someone else but you would only want to do that if the planet wasn't next door to Sol for example.

I'll see what I can do to save the games. It also crashes at the end of turn sequence still. I wonder if its something to do with the Auto-save rather than the research screen or something.

Cheers,
Dominic

I have no (obvious) problems with the auto-save here. I have had the game crash out in the middle of a normal save, though, so it could concievably be an issue somewhhere in the (auto-)save code.

If the planets weren't above class 14, though, they wouldn't have colonized them.

The Arecan survey ship could have gone through a wormhole and been stranded once the planets were gone.

Unless you've changed the setting in your prefs.ini file, it should only be autosaving every 12 turns, and I don't know what could be causing it to crash during a save anyway. Did I ever get a look at your debug.err file in regards to that bug?
