Any other help you guys can give?

So far ive deleted everything out of my registry and such. Re-installed and everything and still no luck.

I seen the game list behind the update menu, then it goes to news, then when i click back to games nothing. Just blank.

Maybe the servers are down or something.

Also the Serial Number isnt staying in. Everytime i close and open the application i have to re enter it. I copy and paste it EXACTLY as it was emailed to me. Also ONCE entered it says expiration date 1900?? Lol kinda funny

Itäs supposed to be grayed out.

Are you behind a proxy?
Firewall?

Something is apparently stopping the DGM client to connect to the servers. Thats why you get such crazy expire-date.

ahhhhhhh

=)

My sat is behind a proxy i believe =)

How do i setup the proxy?

The proxy being used is only http

Normally DGM fetches the proxy-settings from Internet Explorer. So if IE works, then DGM should too.

Otherwise you might want to try to configure it manually under Options -> Proxy server.

Dont forget to add the portnumber in the addrss-field, like: 10.1.1.1:8080 for server 10.1.1.1 and port 8080
If you dont log on the the proxy, just ignore the username and password.

I really wanna play :( BAD BAD BAD lol

Lost out on something big today which set me off (over ebay). Going to have to say sorry to everyone here including SD and the developers

Hmm at least you have the right version.

Well, if you cant get the proxy-settings to work, I suppose SD need to do a bughunt on the DGM. It's also beta as you might have noticed :)

Hmm do you get any text in the news-section in DGM? The groups-section?

Yeapers

Everything works EXCEPT games and chat. Games just shows up blank. Seen the issue before on newsgroups and stuff but after uninstall/deleteing reg entries still notta.

MIGHT be beta but youd think theyd have a different way of getting the game as a back up ya know?

If you mean email, it's too big. If you mean normal mail, Im sure they can send you a CD with it, but it would be better to solve the DGM issue so you can recieve updates as they release new stuff every now and then.

Like an ftp or something is what i was thinking

I bought a P90 with the family pack (included galactic civilizations). I was also running os/2 warp att.

LOVED the game. I remember up until the my PII266 i wasnt able to run OS2 warp anymore (only reason i used it was galactic civilizations). THEN someone tells me online about this and I just about CRAPPED MYSELF!!! Im a HUGE space start persom. Imperium Galactica/Master of Orion and what not. Love em ALL! Civ series as well. But if i had the choice between all of them and this I WOULD seriously get this!

I just wish I could get it NOW

I dont get it

Exodius,

I was looking at some of the older threads (the ones that scroll off into the archive) for references to in incorrect registration expiration date. I found a few but the one I just bumped up had a reference to firewalls and proxies. I see that you have already gotten into those, so maybe what is in that thread is no longer of value, except that the most common cause of the weird expiration date is a failure to connect to the DGM server at Stardock. Since you a satalite link I suspect the problem is beyond my ability to help (I am on a dialup). I would suggest that someone else who is also on a satalite link would be best to help you. It may even require a discussion between StarDock's Pat Ford and your ISP (but I hope it won't come to that).

Know what you mean. I still plays the OS/2-version a little. Have OS/2 on a new laptop (P800 or something) as well as an old P90.

I have a pic showing whats going on and SHOWS im a valid user =P anyone thats on msn [email protected] IF you can help me out

Would someone with firstname beginninginitial and last cause an issue?

The guy who bought it for me has a middle initial. Would that stop it from working?

The only criteria I know of is that it has to be the exact same email address that was submitted in the subscription reques and the exact same subscription code that was returned.. If someone else bought it and put his/her address in the sugscription request instead of yours then using your address would be what is keeping you from getting the game.

Exodius,

I see noone has suggested starting the DGM with the debug flag on. You may wish to try that to see if the debug file can give any clue. If you need help in turning it on, let us know.

OK.

I just tried the DGM to see if I could uninstall and install a small game and it worked fine, so at the very least the server for the DGM has to be up (at least while I was using it).

I went to the Drengin.cm news group and looked for other problems there as well and found this little tidbit. I don't know if it is a solution or not, but, who knows. It just might be useful.

=======================================
I was getting file size mismatches on several icons in the drengin component manager. I tried several things, and then hit on the solution:

I put The Proxomitron into "bypass" mode.

DGM silently picks up proxy information from Internet Explorer, even when -- as in this case -- you don't really want it to. I'm not sure exactly what the problem is, but with the proxy bypassed, everything downloaded just fine.

As part of my experimentation, I'd put my PC outside of the NAT firewall and given it a static IP address. It's now behind it again, using DHCP to get a dynamic IP address, fully firewalled ... and working with drengin.

Hope this helps someone, as it was a source of much frustration to me.
=====================================

Some of this makes sense to me. First, the icons he is talking about are the icons that are displayed in the DGM game window. If DGM finds a size missmatch for some reason it will fail to complete the connection. (Exodius, you said something about seeing the game list for a moment before the news came back up.) But the only way to know if DGM is having a problem getting its own working data is to turn on the debug switch. Here is how:

Go to where you start the DGM from. I have a DGM shortcut on my desktop, but I don't remember if installing DGM put it there or if I did. Otherwise it should be in your "start" path (from the desktop, "start" -> "programs" -> "Stardock drengin.net" -> "Drengin Game Manager". Right click on it to bring up the short cut's menu, then right click on the "properties" entry. This will bring up a window that describes the characteristics of the shortcut style window containing two tabs "general" and "shortcut". Under the "shortcut" tab are a number of headings including "target type", "target location", and "target". By default the content of the field next to the label "target" will have "E:\Drengin.net\Loader.exe" To this add the debug switch "/d" so it looks like "E:\Drengin.net\Loader.exe /d". (Please note that I have my DGM on my "E:" disk, so part of the information may be different on yours. The only thing you need do is add the "/d" to it.)

Now, restart your DGM. Wait for it to come completely up. Then use your "my computer" function to go to the directory where your DGM is loaded (mine is "E:\drengin.net", as seen by the "target" field above). In that directory you will find a file "debug.err". View that file with a file editor (I find "notepad" best for this type of file). There will be a lot of stuff there, but with careful scrutiny it may be possible to find any errors DGM ran into.

Let me know if any of this was useful.

Cheers,
