Does the computer get any advantage (cheat?)

Just wondering about this. If you increase the computer skill level, does it make any difference to their production levels?

The reason I ask is that if it does, could a seperate slider be put in for setting up the game? Call it computer advantage and make it seperate from difficulty?

If they don't, I guess its a moot question :)

The AI's settings are what really determine the difficulty of the game. So you could make a couple of idiot races and a couple of smart ones, and an average one, and they'd all play differently. The advantage factor just determines how many bonus points that you get.

The only unfair advantage the AI gets (AFAIK) is the one written into the story.

The other five major races have been around since long before mankind could sail the seas, much less the interstellar void. As such, the AI knows where all the good planets are. The only thing that was halting colonization was the lack of lightspeed travel, which humanity invented just before the start of the game.

The AI settings determine how well the AI plays, possibly including how it chooses to use the advantage points that all major races (including the Terrans) get at the start of the game.
