Kill Enemy Populations From Space?

It would be nice to have ships with "Bombing Capabilities."

It seems to takes forever to take over enemy planets with transports. Not to mention having transport(s) loaded with billions of soldiers doesn't seem quite right.

This is heavily discussed elsewhere. Basically there will be a bomber unit at some point but only when the UP authorizes them to be created. By deault, they're illegal.

hey do you remember an old compuserve game called megawars? We bombed the hell out of planets back then. In fact if you didn't watch it you could destroy everything of value on the planet, leaving you a huge mess and large debts to pay for the cleanup. Hmm that's an intersting idea, capture a star system and go broke doing it. You'd have to be very carefull, :)

MOO 2 had bombing too, but I didn't use it after I got to see what it did. It destroyed too many of the population and too many non-military targets.

Biggest problem with bombing tends to be the 'super bombing fleet' mentality. Games often end in a 'destroy everything you can before the enemy does likewise' mode. This does lead to rapid end games but very unsatisfying.

Bombing to reduce enemy military populations or soften them up before invasion is good though. I would think that any democracy or federation government type would also have strong opposition at home to bombing civilian populations.

I don't think it should be possible to kill an entire planet through bombing without destroying everything and seriously damaging the planet itself.

There is all ready a super weapon the terror star.

So I see no problem having lesser distructive weapons.
