Codemasters has announced yet another title, this time hoping to break into the PC RTS market with Maelstorm. The title is being developed by the award winning KDV Games, makers of Perimeter, and was originally designed by Codemasters.
The title is to run on KDV Games RTS engine and promises to deliver "contemporary sci-fi theme and action packed tactical gameplay, which includes upgradeable transforming units and weapons of maelstromic destruction."
The story has Maelstorm taking place on a devastated Earth, after it was ravaged by an apocalyptic ecological disaster. The healing planet then becomes target of an alien invasion with water remaining as the most precious of resources and causing the humans to break into separate factions as they maneuver and battle each other and the aliens in a struggle for survival.
Players will be able to control all three races, the Remnants, the Ascension, and the Aliens, as they progress through the third person mission set in "totally destructible and stunningly realised environments." Prepare to be caught in the Maelstorm Q3 2006 exclusively for PC.
