Hi Bernie - and you shouldn't need to go that far! The boards, especially the GC Strategies section, should help, and if you need specific advice, just post for it and plenty of people will help.

Greetings to a fellow Aussie, too - you'll find your countrymen scattered around a number of empires: mainly GROSS (Pirates of the Southern Seas), ANZAC and Aussie Republic.

Welcome, and have fun! :)

Have you read the revised manual and the strat guide, Bernie?

They are really helpful. The http://www.galciv.com/download.asp is here.

Got it Ray tnx
Certainly one of my first mistakes has been to approach this game like I use to play BOTF, I'v been "burning my eyelids" for the past 48 hours trying to read what u pros write here trying to help newbies like me and I can say that I'm totally wrong, u cant match the IA here like u can the Donkey IA in BOTF. One thing I'm not doing is trade, at all and most of u say it is imperative, so I will take another approach from now on. Cant thank u guys enough !!

No worries, Bernie. Try an easier level if you are not already. It takes a while to learn the ropes for this game.

But feel free to ask questions. Answers are freely given. Though as a mediocre chess player, I wouldn't mind some quick tips from an expert. :)

Welcome Bernie! :D arrrgh!!!

Your mates in Australia should be around to give you a tip or seventy-nine. Feel free to visit the Pirates of the Southern Seas thread and the G.R.O.S.S. thread (aka Threadzilla). If you feel like establishing an animal persona... someone smack me upside the head please! ...and then I'll update the Pirate Lagoon website with your membership. Cheers! :HOT:

Bernie - trade in two ways: develop trade routes, certainly, but dont forget trading tech to other civs. We usually call this 'tech whoring' - trade your research techs to major and minor civs to bankroll your expansion. I played Birth of the Federation a little (also the initial release was a bit ordinary, as I remember - it's a while ago now) and you're looking at a better game here. Good luck mate!

Bernie. You should at least join a group with an Australian flag.

I am from the other sunshine state. WA.
At least i'm in the same state as he is... Queensland..

Why don't Queensland and WA have daylight savings.?

Cause the leaders of those states think the sun shines out of their arses and they can't be bothered getting up an Hour earlier for anyone. :D

And before you flame me for that sad joke.
I'm a sandgroper living in Melbourne and I hate daylight saving.

its that the cows up here don't want to wake up here an hour earlier..

The farmers have tried to get them to wake up.. they just won't LOL

Nah. It's because the extra sunshine will fade the wallpaper. ;)
