Wish List

This thread will be used to collect different ideas that are too small for getting their own thread.

1) Allow all space ships to enter planet orbit even if planet is not colonized, or if it's colonized by someone else.
Reason: I want to prevent enemy from colonizing some planets. And I want to prevent some enemy planets from getting reinforcements.

2) I want more nebulas, and bigger ones. I want some nebulas to have special effects such as:
a) scanner radius drops to just 1, so ships inside nebula can only see the adjacent squares. And ships outside the nebula can see only those nebula squares that are adjacent to normal space.
b) damaging effects, ships that enter this nebula recieve some % of damage every turn.
c) speed reducing effects, the speed of ships entering this nebula is reduced by certain %, which should be significantly big.

Think of nebula as space terrain. Without any terrain, space is so.. empty.

I don't think you gain anything by being able to "protect" planets you haven't colonized--the other races will do the same thing to you that you are doing to them. Besides, it doesn't take any longer to create, say, a defender than it does to create a colony ship in the first place.

Be bold and keep sending out those colony ships even if you have to send them into someone else's territory. I find ignored high-teen planets that way occasionally. You can always dump extra colony ship inhabitants on 13s and 14s that nobody else wants or park them around vulnerable planets and just dare those damn aliens to slaughter those millions of lives. Those Bastards!

But to contribute some random thoughts in the same vein--I think it would be more realistic if multiple races could colonize star systems with multiple good planets or perhaps the race model could be made more complex to allow some planets to be more hospitable to different races than others while always allowing the possibility that a given planet could appeal greatly to both. Either would certainly promote non-military kinds of interactions, but on the other hand create opportunities for "good" versus "evil" forms of warfare (especially if you didn't start the war)--conquering planets for territory would be more "good" than destroying populations on planets you can't use. It could also lead to some interesting side-effects--the more mixing the closer races might be, unless there are large morale disparities, growing tensions, inter-system warfare! You could also get in "cold" war kinds of disputes where one planet in the system is poaching your trade routes (though this could happen in systems trade routes pass through without multi-race systems).

I also would raise the idea of trade routes being morale raisers for planets they originate or end at. A planet might actually receive credit towards class points with every successful trade run. This would work better too if the max trade route number scaled with galaxy size or passing the upper limit of routes would be allowed but only if they are "assisted" by starbases or inhabited systems in each sector they pass through. This would tie into the idea of making systems more separably manageable (spending-wise, for instance).

IIRC, this is already under consideration, as I seem to remember mention of a UP Issue that forces the owner of such a planet to give said colony up to the system's primary owner.

- that's a bad arguement. If you think like that, simply don't send your ships to protect planets, but let others do it if you think it's a waste of their time. Besides, it makes common sense to allow any ship enter orbit of any planet.

1. Sending a ship to "reserve" an uncolonized planet until your colony ship can make it there is (I think)unrealistic. Do you think a race is going to go "Ooops, i didnt realize ou were holding this system for youselves. We'll go find ourselves a new one. Sorry." Hell no! They're gonna say "Do I see your name on it?! I didn't think so!" and walk right past the star fighter/scout/whatever ship's stationed there to set up their colony. If you really don't want a planet to get colonized, you have the option of keeping a star fighter nearby to pick off colony ships in transit.

As for docking at another races starsystem...I have to say this is an interesting idea. I meen, not just any race, cause they have a limited amount of airspace and wouldnt want human ships using slots in orbit for their ships. But, if you're allied with a race, you are allowed to dock one ship in each of their solar system (or somehting like that). Ideas?

2. We've always wanted to put in some nebulas, even jsut to spice up the look of the galaxy. Your right, space can get boring after a while. But, we've run into a problem with 2d sprite games and alpha blending. You can do a bit of alpha transparency and your frame rate wont see much of a hit. But, as soon as you start displaying entire semi-transparent tiles, the game slows to a crawl. And if the nebulas can't be see-through, they just end up looking very out-of-place (aka. like crap).

My suggestion for this, while it dosen't solve your terrain issue, is this - give Starbases modules that perform the different interferences that you spoke of above "Tactics Disruption - Speed of all enemy ships in the sector is cut by 50%" This way, you end up shaping the "Terrain" to your liking. Instead of boosing the power of your ships, you can lower the power of enemy ships.

Sorry... 2nd paragraph
'you are allowed to dock one ship '
=
'perhaps you should be allowed to dock one ship '

You're not currently allowed to do this. :) But I think it'd be nice.

If you are concerned about another race colonizing a star you want, why not just trade for the other race's colony ship? And I bet there are enough other altenatives already in the game that have not yet been discovered in the game that will accomplish your end goal (colonizing THAT star before the other player does).

Hmmm...I didn't meen for any frustration on the matter. I personally like the idea of being able to dock at another races star system, given certain condidtions have been met. I also liked the ideas to have instances where certain sectors will cause your ships sto move slower/ have less attack power / ect. It's just displaying a fancy transparent nebula that would be a problem.

All suggestions are always welcome...just realize that our team isn't as huge, so something has to be easy to implement or another feature will have to be scrapped to find time to put it in.

I don't want anyone going home unhappy over the opinions of others. ;)
