Ralph Nader and Terrell Owens... strange bedfellows?
I think this is the "huh?" story of the week

Just when I thought that this story would die down, now we have a new wrinkle in this whole engagement. Ralph Nader has come to the defense of Terrell Owens as the founder of the "League of Fans". He is asking that the Eagles' CEO re-instate T.O. on the grounds that a) he should be able to have his right to free speech and 
that by the organization's actions, they are denying the fans(particularly season ticket holders) the opportunity to see one of the best receivers in the game. If I am picking up the intended meaning there, I think he is basically saying that Philly is now DEFRAUDING fans by keeping him out. He wants Paul Tagliabue to reverse the Eagles decision if the team doesn't do it themselves.
Now, the issue of free speech has come up many times on this very site, and the general consensus has been that at work and from an organizational standpoint, you are not entitled to that kind of protection, and the law also reflects that as Nader will admit. However, I have a feeling that if one of Nader's employees basically trashed him and the organization with which he is working in publicly, he wouldn't be so forgiving. In fact, if the stories are true, he does have a history of doing many of the same things that T.O. has done: being disloyal to people you work with, being petty about money and making every parting full of acrimony. I guess that is now why they find themselves allies.
Mr. Nader, I may call you if I need protection as a consumer, but other than that, I really don't want you and sports to get within 50 feet of each other.
