How do I know when overpopulation is decreasing the moral of a planet?

Hi,

morale is a factor of numerous variable in the game and I generally like the way it works.

Overpopulation seems to decrease moral. Now, how can I tell when overpopulation is the major factor behind the morale loss, not destabilization, tax rate etc.? How can I tell the optimum moral/population range for the planets?

Thanks,
miika

Have you read this thread yet, miika? There is a lot of useful info on morale.

Hi Ray,

thanks, a very good thread. I checked the Forum only before posting, did not go thru all the Strats.

Miika. The game will usually notify you regarding destabilization. In general, unless your taxes are way high (above 55) then usually it isn't taxes. Besides, lowering taxes only improves your morale for a couple turns. Improvements are much better. 2 types of these.
PQ boosting
Soil enhancement
Habitat improvement
Terraforming
The Terraformer (wonder) Boosting Pq boosts morale in that better planets make the same # of people happier.

Morale boosters. (several of these.

But here's a kicker. If you have a morale bonus, it won't kick in untill you have built a morale boosting improvement. So entertainment networks end up very valuable.

But it is a never ending cycle. Happier peeps=more moving in =population pressure=sadder peeps =you build an improvement=happier peeps....

But improvements definitely are the way to go over lowering taxes (unless again your taxes are just way too hight)

I noticed that planets with over 5 billion population start to lower their morale, as soon as you ship some people out usually the morale jumps over 10 points.

Several posts confirm that shipping citizens away from overpopulated raises moral. I've done this too.

However, if I over the game ship billions of my citizens into
a) hellish low PQ planets,
b) colony ships/transports orbiting forever a planet, or
c) into invasion battle on foreign ground

how do these choices affect overall morale within my colonies?

Is there a negative feedback in violently forcing people to move away from their homeworld, possibly dooming them to death on the top of an invasion wave?
