Hyperion Manufacturing Center too expensive

at 5,000 shields, this take 200 to 300 turns to build. I talking about a class 20+ world with fusion, adv fusion and anti-matter plants already built.
I vote to reduce this to 3000 shields: 3x anti-matter plant.

By the time you get Hyperion, your production should be up high enough that it's not that hard to build.

A fully developed class 26 (before terraforming-type improvements) can have over 800 production. Hyperion only accounts for about 75 of those.
5000 cost / 775 soc. prod. == 7 turns

Assuming you only built half the production imps, and haven't built Terraforming, that's still around 100 production.
5000 cost/100 soc. prod. == 50 turns to build.

The lowest production I've had on a class 22+ planet when I got to Hyperion was around 35. Even at that rate, it's still only about 170 turns.

And none of these figures account for the max possible planet class with the earthworms event figured in (54, IIRC), or the production increases possible with Starbases nearby.

Beh. That first formula should read
5000 cost/725 soc. prod == 7 turns.

I've never seen 7 turns. a 26 class with 50% social production will average 30 shields. How do you get 775 shields? I get around 150 shield production after Hyperion is built as I am still researching techs and building Avatars.

I never had a game last long enough for 775 production per turn. My average game last 7 or 8 hours some people must be playing one game for days.

Hyperion Manufacturing Center too expensive I vote for reducing the cost.

Arturus Magi,

If you should not have Hyperion Manufacting Center until the panets are more developed then the technology is given to us too early. Give us the Techonology later in the game when are planets are more developed.

When you get the tech to build the HMC, it is good
to get all your main planets to build it, and put
100% to social products, if circumstances allow it. I found the production boost to be worth the effort on the
long term. The slower civs will have a much more difficult time to catch up, and I find it realistic to widen the gap beetween leading civ and the others.

It's not as much when but where. I've never really had much of a problem building it on the planets where it would really make much of a difference in the first place.

I generally have a few planets already in the low hundreds production (~50 turns to build) before I even can build the Hyperion Manufacturing Center. Good placement of Starbases can push that up alot, as does pushing the Social spending up near 100%.

And that 775, as I noted a minute later, was a typo.
